Switch to Mozilla as your broswer. It has a great pop up blocker built in as well as tons of other nice features. The best part is that it's free.

I have been enjoying My IE 2, basically just a shellf or IE, so there is the compatability, but it blocks pop-ups.  I can have sites allow pop-ups as well.  Oh, and tabbed browsing, so how I love thee.

Does My IE 2 have a password manager? The password manager and the pop up blocker are the main reasons why I switched to Mozilla but there are certain things I don't like about it so I would like to find a better option if possible.

It doesn't appear to have one.  A feature I never really use, so I can't be positive, I suppose.

My IE2 just likes to crash too much for my tastes.  I use Mozilla Firebird.  It has all the features I want, and it's fast as hell.

People that complain about popups should be required to state which browser and version they're using as well as the last time they did a spyware scan. i've seen similar messages posted on four different forums, and a lot of times, just running Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware fixes the problem. Switching to Mozilla or Firebird fixes popups a lot as well. i got flurry of three popups in Phoenix a few days ago, which was *very* odd since i haven't had an unauthorized popup in over a month with the browser.

Another nice thing about Phoenix is that you can block images from particular servers (like non-Flash ads). There was a particularly nasty "growing" ad on a site i went to several months back. A simple right click on it brought up a menu i used to block it, and after i refreshed the page, it was gone.

The password manager is very handy if you go to a lot of sites where you need to login, like forums. Instead of typing your username and password, you can have it remember them and enter them whenever you visit the site. i only use it for a couple of sites due to security reasons (the file it keeps passwords in is encrypted though), but it's very useful on those sites.

Out of curiousity, what don't you like about Mozilla? Aside from the very occasional site that was programmed for IE, i have no use for IE anymore.

Go to my site
Two popups......hahahaha!
Angelfire had two options for their ads:
First is the have the ad directly embedded into your site at the top of the page, which is what i had before.
Second is an option i didn'y find out about till a month ago, is that there is no ad embedded in your site, but comes up as a popup instead.
I chose the latter.
My site is too special to be plagued with embedded ads.
hahahha.

I don't understand a lot of the bitching about popups. I mean I know they are a plague and all but there a quite a few ways to deal with them.

1. Down load a popup blocker. This probably isn't the greatest solution because most of the freeware ones suck. I've only experienced one shareware one but it turned out it was causing my computer to crash. I blamed Microsoft for my frequent crashes only to realize it was the popup blocker since I haven't had as much problems with crashes since I deleted it after switching to Mozilla.

2. Switch to a browser like Mozilla that has a popup blocker built in. The popup blocker on Mozilla works beautifully and I haven't had any popup problems with it.

3. STOP LOOKING AT PORN YOU FREAK. Seriously a lot of porn sites have nasty sh!t they put on your computer that makes popups flock to you like flies on road kill.

4. Download spybot and adaware and use them to get rid of those nasty things sites put on your computer like spyware and such.

Oh and aoi tsuki one of the main problems that I'm having with Mozilla is that if I have a bunch of windows open or other programs the thing wants to sort of like crash. It's not really a crash it's just that the screen will start to get really messed up until I have no choice but to close all Mozilla windows and then open a new one. I know there is tabbed browsing but it will do it if I have more than two tabs up and I'm listening to music on RealOne or something. I figure it must be a memory problem but damn I have 512 MB so Mozilla must be a hog or something. I never had this problem with Explorer as I could have several Explorer windows open and a couple of other programs with no problems. It gets incredibly annoying.

Another thing is the lack of a spell checker. I'd really love to get rid of Outlook but I have to have a spell checker though.

I don't know what this is called so I'll try to explain it. In Explorer if I push down on my mouse wheel it will bring up this special arrow thing and by simply moving the mouse around the page will scroll in that direction without having to click on the scroll bar or anything. I can't do this with Mozilla and that's another feature other than spell check that I really like about Explorer as it made scrolling around a page a lot easier and faster.

Heh.  Tabbed browsing isn't something that I use a whole lot, but I must say that in a pr0n gallery, it's quite nice.  You just middle click on each picture, and then you can use the tabs to look at each individual picture in its full screen glory.

I have the autoscroll plugin for Firebird as well, so when I don't middle click on a link, I can just hold the middle mouse button to scroll up and down.  I use that when I want to scroll great distances, as I have my wheel set to do precise movements.

Thank you Grey Ninja for posting the name autoscroll (I didn't know what that function was called) for with that name I was able to find this using google. Now I too have the power of autoscroll. HA HA HA HA!!!

EDIT:  Yes, now thanks to this I now have a spell checker for Mozilla as well!

Now if I could only fix this problem Mozilla would be perfect.

Heh.  In your Bookmarks->Mozilla Firebird & Mozilla Information folder, you should see lots of links for stuff like that.  Firebird ships with the bare essentials required for browsing the internet, and anything more than that that you want to install, you must install the appropriate extensions.  It's partly this fact that makes Firebird so smoking fast.  You don't have to slowdown your browser by installing features that you won't use.

Anyways, the link to all the extensions currently available in Firebird is right here.  For those who are really bothered by ALL ads, I would suggest AdBlock.

This is just strange.  I am using Firebird 6.1 RC2 right now, which I BELIEVE is the same as the final release of 6.1, and I have never experienced any problems like that.  I have never experienced anything like that period, and I have often used the nightly binaries.  It's not at all uncommon for me to have 10 - 25 browser windows open, and I don't ever see my screen messing up.  And it's not like my computer is a big ox either, as I only have 256MB of memory.

Firebird being a memory hog is simply wrong as well.  Overall, I find that the memory footprint of Firebird is much less than IE.

That's the thing that really confuses me about it too. I first read about Mozilla on the penny-arcade.com forums. Just about any time it's brought up on those boards someone always praises it for being super fast and hardly using any memory. I should probably also mention that it seems a little sluggish compared to IE as well. Nothing that noticeable but it definitely isn't faster.

I should probably just switch to Firebird. I actually was going to switch a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't figure out how to transfer my bookmarks and passwords from Mozilla to Firebird so I just gave up. So how might I go about transferring my bookmarks and passwords if you can?

Personally, I notice a world of improvement in speed over IE.  In IE, the pages take anywhere from half a second to a full second to display.  In Firebird, it downloads stuff for like a quarter of a second, then displays the page.  It definately feels like broadband to me.  Firebird also starts up noticably quicker than IE.

I am using the Unofficial August 16th binary with SSE optimizations right now, and it seems to be working nicely for me.  I would very much give my thumbs up to the build.  If you have an Athlon XP or a Pentium 4, the SSE optimizations really couldn't hurt either.

Regarding moving your passwords and stuff from Mozilla, there's a topic about it here, but I have never actually tried it myself.  It will probably become much more clear when Mozilla integrates Firebird as the default browser.  Firebird just isn't stable enough to be the default yet, but it's getting there.

If you want a great pop up blocker with minimal install go to toolbar.google.com and install that bad boy.  It does password/form management too...the only thing it doesn't do is tabbed windows...I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say its the greatest IE plugin EVAR.  =)
