Are fanboys becoming a plague?
« on: August 27, 2003, 12:44:56 AM »
Ive just come back from the future and are here to drop some tips.

The plague of speculating Nintendo fanboys that get disillusioned by allowing their fantasies take over reality is getting out of hand, but its all in good fun. Or is it?
Quite a few Nintendo fanboys out there are losing the plot. The MeGaToN discusssion was great as it allowed speculation and dreams of what would create huge excitement for Nintendo fanboys, but when fanboys start to merge (or confuse in some cases) the lines between speculation/wishes/dreams/fantasy with announcements/reality/practicality/phylosophy it is a cause for concern.

When Nintendo leaked they will make a huge announcement about a new range of entertainment that is new and innovative (*cough* unlike the eyetoy which was already on PC *cough*) in the way we play games, some imaginary fanboys came up with solutions articles of  "techno-lust" etc and other primitive ideas for future Nintendo platforms that where discussed more than 1.5 years ago by others.  Other mainstream websites have come up silly articles like:
Has Nintendo Lost its Mind? (gaming-age.com)
or Nintendo is too Arrogant, (toy rants found at cube-europe.com)

Just a few short weeks before the leak that announcements will be made about new an exciting ways of playing games, there was an article at either gaming-age.com or gamerankings.com which showcased a Pokemon peripheral (an electronic wand which when moved rapidly back and forth through the air it casts/emits character depictions in the air according to the angle of movement).
Surely this alone isnt the startling information on how Nintendo have researched new ways of playing games (which by the way if I may say so are far more advanced than any other "apparent gaming corporation" has come up with so far LOL eyetoy).
Around the same time of the leak another party leaked other information that a toy company signed a deal with a robotics toy company which would allow the toy company (unofficially Nintendo) to remotely control robots as a form of entertainment. Yawn you may say to this new and innovative form of playing games though if the robots had streaming camera senses in them (which is the norm as you will see coming this Christmas) which would allow you to view First-Person Perspective on the next-gen Game Boy handheld with inbuilt remote features (*cough* yeah $ony is about to crush Nintendo's handheld market by introducing a PSP which has MPEG 4 playback and you can DL hire DVD quality movies, yawn/caugh/yawn) and the robots would have assigned missions according to the software you have running on the next-gen GameBoy.
See this is a form of Nintendo offering new forms of gaming entertainment while the other "apparent gaming corporations" just sit back and invade through jelousy whatever market Nintendo invents.
Articles on "techno-lust" etc just dont seem to cut it. You have to see beyond the mind of a fanboy/mortal and envision what makes Miyamoto happy. Miyamoto is not in the Gaming industry so he can create slogans like "The Console I developed pushes more Polygons than yours". Miyamoto is an engineer/artists who is in touch with his inner child. New Nintendo peripherals or hardware/platforms will not necessarily just be more "powerful" or more "eye-candy" attractive to the mainstreamer eye, or in $ony's case movie/mp3 playback to play cheesy $ony pictures/music or pirate Hentai.
New Nintendo peripherals/hardware will push the limits of imagination such as techno-wear. Wearing technology which is embedded in clothing is the future for Nintendo. The future forms of Pikmin games could be engineered by Miyamoto whereby a group of gamers would wear another form/model of the next-gen GameBoy embbeded in their jacket and Kodak would supply the extremely flexible OLED displays running off a power source which would last 5 times longer than anything $ony could come up with for PSP (as according to $ony due to their new changes they will be manufacturing all their LCD etc displays rather than outsourcing to other manufacturers and Kodak is leading in the more efficient OLED technology).
(The term efficiency has become synonymous with Nintendo, just ask Atari & Sega they will vouch for it).
At this point it is hard to imagine what objectives/directives the gamers could be given in the non-virtual playing field, but it would be interesting to see the REALTIME animated simulations of the gamers in action on the MainFrame TV screen. I also now envision M$ to say I want this idea let me have it (like a massive cry-baby wanting another child's candy) and use a dodgy franchise like Brute Force where gamers would be armed with next-gen electronic Paint-Ball weaponry and Dill Gates gets to sit back in his bunker and purve on the gamers like a voyueristic geek monitoring how competant the gamers are.
Other possible option could be to have the gamer wear lightweight headgear with an OLED visor which wouldnt quite be VR but rather a headup display on the OLED visor for gaming during the night and dedicate the gear to the software creator of the Metroid series.

So next time you imagine or speculate about Nintendo's future try not to bring up draconian ideas that where discussed over 1 and a half years ago and please for the sake of groans dont speculate the most naive possible speculations known to a gamer by suggesting Nintendo will team up with $ony etc and all the other retard derivatives of what will happen to Nintendo.
Nintendo has just legitimately spent the past decade trying to inform its userbase that Nintendo is a gaming-only company not interesting in supporting $ony Movies or $ony Music departments and has spent the last decade informing its userbase that Nintendo's phylosophy is not excessively pre-rendering FMV to hide the shallow/mainstream themed gameplay.
$ony has literally illegitimately stollen billion$ off Nintendo by exploiting the opposite of Nintendo's phylosophies (in case you dont get it sex & violence easily sells to the mainstream masses) and some extremely silly fanboy has dreamed up an imaginary scenario that because Nintendo does not have the largest installbase that Nintendo is in trouble or something and will be devoured or something (lol oddly at the same time Nintendo announced a $100MIL + profit for the last quarter yet "still" Nintendo needs to become 3rd party or "still" needs to merge according to dellusional fanboy suckered by fear tactics the opposition live on. PS: Just a few months ago $ony stock was at a 9 year low and their stock didnt raise after they announced PSX server and PSP handheld platforms. Yet Nintendo must be victimised instead.
Nintendo will always be a gaming entity, since 200 years ago, since 200 years from now.
Nintendo will always be a gaming entity, since 200 years ago, since 200 years from now.
Nintendo will always be a gaming entity, since 200 years ago, since 200 years from now.
Its gaming platforms (given today's technology incorporate electronics) will not always be set on top of a TV box ie. the norm, the perception, the current competition can only produce.

Its time many of the Nintendo fanboys grew up a little and enlightened their oppressed (by jelous non-gaming-only corporations) and/or shocked minds (betrayed by Rare and Ken Lobb, which in my opinion Rare was a team of scraps after Zoonami and Free Radical Design where formed, and KLobb the publicict must be dating one of the founding Rare brothers, which isnt a big loss if you consider he is overseeing very ordinary games Rare are currently working on; also has Perfect Dark Zero gone 3rd person? Since Martin Hollis left?)

For me Tales of Phantasia by Namco, this game *alone* more than adequately makes up Rare's whole departure, but to think that another exclusive RPG title with mature characters aplenty as apposed to the different Tales characters is staggeringly better than 98% of M$ Classics range of Xbox titles. How M$ came up with the idea of calling their platinum sellers "classics" is also staggering, considering the platform has to be at least the age of Saturn or as far back as Commodore 64 to be regarded as Classics of time. Is M$ way generic < /end rhetorical question>
DOA:XBV, Blinx, Spiderman, Matrix etc the list goes on and on of very ordinary and somewhat pathetic generic titles apparently now tagged Classics? WTF? groan.
Square Enix have an announcement to make in the coming weeks about a surprise title they are launching in DEC. A big IF but if this title was on GCN aswell as PS2 it would cement/certify the Gamecube as being one of the best RPG platforms ever. Sure nowhere as many RPGs as SNES or PS2 but if you consider the quality over quantity aspect you get the picture.

PSO, SoA, LoZ:WW, AC, FF:CC, ToP, BK and
GS:LA, AW etc through the GBplayer

are just to name a very few above average RPGs.

Yet Nintendo must merge or despite $100MIL profit for the last quarter, Nintendo should go 3rd party, according to the naive end of Nintendo fanboys. Nintendo will never ever merge with non-gaming-only corporations, and if so in 100 years time M$ somehow has purchased all the electricity plants throughout the world to prevent any competing game platform from running against the DirectXBox platforms, then Nintendo would simply go back to creating playing cards but not your traditional pulp-material playing cards but rather made from Solar Powered OLED materials which have manipulating content on the face of the cards and are the new age TAZO holograms you find in commercial potato chip bags or Miyamoto would take up Rocket Science and join Carmack, just for fun.

Can anyone provide evidence of M$ making a $1 (ie. 1 dollar) profit in the past 12 months? Exactly.
Its time Nintendo fanboys grew up and let the dumb & mislead M$ fanboys swet a little and let the dumb $ony fanboys buy billion$ of PSP's so they can watch pirate Hentai on the units. Once the PSP comes out Nokia's GBA clone will discontinue. But regarding the next-gen GameBoy, gameplay will not be fixed only to the screen.

You have just been enlightened by ____[aka nonjagged]

My GCN game list, current or by the end of Gamecube's lifespan (however please note, due to my extensive time-travelling I also researched that Gamecube will still continue to receive support by Nintendo years after the next-gen Nintendo platform launches and as stated last year you will see all the N64 classics make their way onto GODiscs and my tip is Pre-Order Mario128 and receive a real classic called SuperMario64 bonus disc):

PSO, SoA, LoZ:WW, AC, FF:CC, ToP, BK
MP, MP2,
ED, RE, RE4, MGS, TH,
VJ, K7,
DD, F-Z, RR,
Mario Tennis, Tiger Woods, Avalanche
Zoonami FPS, Geist,
Ikaruga, RS2, Starfox Armada, Pilot Wings,

etc

and any Mario Allstars compilation N64 titles on GODisc Nintendo releases.

In the meantime, next month Nintendo announce/showcase GCN peripherals such force feedback steering wheels (for F-Zero and beyond) and hopefully 1st party manufactured keyboards and headsets, while more trash articles will continue doing the rounds.

Seriously though, proper paragraph breaks and some more punctuation (and no more dollar signs instead of 'S' :\ )might make something this long easier to read. Or a quick summary, which, if I'm not mistaken, would be "Nintendo has pretty cool ideas and they get copied a lot, but they also make tons of money and clowns that think they need to merge with someone need to go eat a bag of hell" - am I right?

100 years

Also, replies on this forum that can be paraphrased as "too long didn't read" or "I am a mensa troll" are probably not looked to favorably upon. :S

"PSO, SoA, LoZ:WW, AC, FF:CC, ToP, BK and

Have to disagree,

PSO isn't to bad but it's only has Multiplayer action.  The single player mode is a bit stale (yeah I kinda realize it's meant to be online but still, some tweaks in the single player could have helped).

LoZ:  WW isn't an RPG.  It's more of an action/adventure with a trance of RPG elements but not close to enough.

AC:   LOL, nintendo places this back as a RPG but since it's basically same as EA's Sims, wouldn't be a "Life" or alter life simulator?

ToP?  Think you mean ToS .  Yeah this one is actually shaping up real good (received 9.7, 9.5, 9.0, and one 8 from the four top japanese reviewers).  Kinda sad you'll still going have to wait (unless you can read japanese),  until March+ 2004 for the US and most likely later for Europe.

FFCC recieved mixed reviews, it's basically the same as PSO but think Squaresoft's Game Design Studio should have added a better plot and included some sort of online or at least Friendly AI help.

BK, I take it you're talking about Nacmo's newest RPG, there's not alot to go on for this.  It could be a flop or it could be a hit.   Won't know for awhile.

That leaves the GBP games.

GS & it's expansion GS LA are good enough but AW?  Advance Wars is a strategy game, basically Starcraft clone type.

I really can't call that a positive otherwise you'll have to count the PS2 backwards comp as positive as well.   It's not really because A.) most fans have a PS1 just don't bother hooking it up since PS2 can do both, B.) even if you didn't have one you could get them fairly cheap.

Same with the GBA/GBP games.  I know alot of PS2 gamers who actually have GBA's so why would they need a GC to play them .

So right now, there's quite a few quality RPGs that I can play on the PS2 vrs the GC as of now.

What would a hardcore RPG do?  Wait two years+, or just buy an PS2?

I took option two, buying a PS2.  For a whole year, I currently have 4 games for it and guess what, they're all RPGs: Final Fantasy X, Xenosaga, Suikoden III, and Shadow Hearts(soon to be added, Disgaea).

well the ps2 doesnt have as many good rpgs as you think it does- it just has the big names
basically the rpgs on the ps2 i liked the most were breath of fire 5, xenosaga, and suikoden 3- i have played more but not all are that good- i am anticipating star ocean 3 though- it looks kick ass

"(soon to be added, Disgaea)."

i have played some of that game and all i can say is WOW- it is a lot of fun gup- you will not be dissapoined in buying this game- it is a very good strategy game and the story is really out there- but it is a lot of fun

i call the big one bitey.

Yeah, I've been looking at pics and trailers and it seems to be everything I've want, a goofy FFTactics-esque strategy RPG with some of the nicest character designs I've seen and crazy off the roof special attacks.  More importantly, it lets you play the dark prince(kind of) instead of some goodie boy.  I'll be picking Disgaea up soon.

Yeah, I'll take Termin8's idea and reply to the subject header, too.

Yeah, they are, but they've always been around. It's only thanks to the Internet and forums that we've noticed them in full force, though!
