Three Nintendo Games At EVO 2016
« on: January 26, 2016, 02:43:00 PM »

The biggest fighting game tournament in the world will feature heavy Nintendo representation.

A third of the main lineup for the world's largest fighting game tournament will be on Nintendo systems.

Pokkén Tournament will join last year's Super Smash Bros Melee and Super Smash Bros for Wii U in the lineup for the EVO 2016 tournament, which will run from July 15 - 17 in Las Vegas. The other games in the lineup will be Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat X, Killer Instinct (Xbox One), Ultimate Marvel v Capcom 3, Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator.

Unlike last year, the Super Smash Bros for Wii U tournament will allow DLC characters as the whole lineup will be available by the time the tournament rolls around. Pokkén will use the game's LAN mode to facilitate tournament play.

Smash 4 and Melee were pretty much a given after having the 2nd and 3rd most entrants of any game last year and attracting a lot of viewers, but I'm legitimately surprised about Pokken. Hopefully it ends up being worthy of that spot.

I just can't believe that:
a) There's more Pikachu playable at EVO than there are Ryu (two in Pokken)

b) The finals are at the MANDALAY BAY EVENT CENTER. That's the arena they hold world title boxing fights/UFC cards at.

If they will run Pokken on arcade setups then it is technically not a Nintendo system.

Given that Nintendo is fronting the sponsorship money, I assume it will be the Wii U version of the game. It is most likely the easier version to set up.

There's probably plenty of salt out there at the inclusion of Pokken Tournament, but I love it that a very different sort of game is in the main line up.

I think there's more salt over Ultra Street Fighter IV not being in the lineup.
