Most Polished GCN Game

I think Metroid Prime. I mean, they took the time to add in freaking dew on your visor when you run into water or steam. Heat ripples when monsters shoot fire at you. Reflections when you walk up to something shiny. Water ripples when  you jump into water.

Not just the graphics are polished either. The music is awesome, the gameplay is a perfect tribute to past Metroid games.

To me Eternal Darkness's controls were a bit clunky at first (I got the hang of it after a while), but Metroid, you could easily pick it up and play it, or at least I did, some people had problems with aiming I guess, but for me it was easy.

Don't get me wrong I love ED, but the graphics just aren't as good (great lighting effects, but look at Alex's character model...) I loved the music, but it got a bit repetitive.

I think Metroid takes ED. Zelda was great too.

I wonder what the least polished GCN title is *Leans towards new topic button*

The European version of Metroid Prime had all the obvious bugs removed and the AI was improved to make it more difficult than the US version.  Also the hints and logs where slightly altered. I'd have to say that if the US version doesn't deserve the award, the European version definately does.

I am also suprised that so many feel that Mario Sunshine seserve the title.  Granted, it was a good Mario game, and I am glad to see nintendo try something new with Mario, but I cant help but feel this one was rushed.  Poor framerate at times, theme did seem to get repetative, and the visuals (other than the water) were C+ average.  Metroid being picked so much doesnt suprise me, although its not a favorite of mine, I still feel its a very polished game.  What about Factor5 guys.  A little game called Rogue Leader; also a very impressive game.   Very popular to, kinda suprised that it wasnt picked.  Most impressive 3rd part title, who isnt made by Factor5, would have to go to Time Splitters 2.  I actually picked this game up for $20 at Best Buy a couple of months ago.  Heard good things, so I picked it up.  Most solid FPS on Cube yet.  They were smart to keep graphics to a level in which they could also keep a smooth framerate (I couldnt believe how smooth this game runs).  I think this one could be cool to do a tournament with some freinds, gonna have to try that out.  Splinter Cell also comes to mind, but I feel this one was released a month before it should have.  Its not as smooth as it could have been, and just feels a bit rushed at times.  I would still give it a B+ rating though.  NST did a fantastic job with Wave race B.S. and would consider it one of Cubes best 2nd party titles by far.

I played a Timesplitters demo and it was pretty boring.  Splinter Cell looked boring, but I imagine if I actually played it that it would be fun.

As for Metroid Prime, even in the American version I had no problems.  No bugs ever bothered me, and I never condescended to using hints.  So that'd probably be in third place.

It wouldn't make sense to choose a multiplatform game, as those generally have the least polish, because they are made with the intention of porting it to another system.  About the only exception I can think of is Soul Calibur II, which reeks of polish on all 3 systems.

Actually Metal Mario has the most polish.   Check out his SSB:M trophy.  It must have 20 layers of polish!!!!

But seriously, I think Metroid Prime has the most polish, hands down.  I still play that game ocassionally, mostly to drool over the graphics.  Almost every time I play it, I notice some new little graphical detail that I missed the first time I played it through.  MP also has killer gameplay.  I still love just jumping around and turning into the ball while boosting all over the place, even though I've logged in over 100 hours on the game.  MP truly is an amazing game.

OFF TOPIC:

MP has to be the biggest sleeper hit of all time.  How could Metroid Prime NOT sell 4 million units by now??!?!  MP is definitely on my "Top 5 Games of All Time" list.  It's a sign of things to come in this industry IMO, and I don't like to think about it really.  My only peace of mind is that the forces that are trying to change the video game industry (in a bad way I might add) are probably going to be losing alot of money when the next video game industry slump occurs, if they already aren't losing money at this point (M$ and many third party developers are losing alot of money now).

JB: Yes, I know the PAL version got a lot of bugfixes, but I consider releasing a buggy version as retail anywhere is not easily forgiven. The translation errors occur in the PAL version, haven't tested the US one.
The Garden of Life is described as a GROVE of life (grove highlighted) and the lava basin is described as SEA of molten rock (sea highlighted, usually the highlighted word occurs in the name of the room). There was a room named grove at the surface with water in it and another one named sea of fire with two pillars in the center. That's why this point was really frustrating for me, I searched in the wrong rooms.

Isn't that room the hint points to called the Life Grove? That's what it's called in my version of Metroid Prime.

Okay, found out those errors occur in the German version only... Nonetheless, a serious flaw.

For sure, SCII is up there in terms of polish with any game. The only thing I would have added would've been more interactive environments like in DOA 3. But besides that, the game is as good as you can possibly get (I played it last night for the first time in like 2 months and I had totally forgotten what a perfect game it was).

I'm sorry I'm being nit-picky, but regarding the dew on the visor, the pattern was always the same each time you walked into steam.  Retro Studios could have made the water droplets form at random, or at least have multiple patterns the game could use at random.

And water rippling when you walk into it isn't that great, is it?

But still, I don't want to sound like i hate the game, becasue it is easily one of my favs.

Most polished game you ask?  Let's see...most polished game I own right now has to be LoZ:WW.  When you walk out of the water, your dripping wet, and if you talk to someone while wet the water is still dripping!

My only graphical complaint is that while sailing, the water is being pushed off the bow into the air, and and when it goes back into the water there's no splashing or anything, and it lookss quite unnatural.  Besides that, this game oozes polish, so much, that the polish seeps out of the Gamecube and onto my other games making them more polished.  Unbelieveable!

That bit annoys me, too, knowsnothing.  Also when you're sailing, the water goes through the bottom of your boat, which of course is okay, but it still annoys me.

Oh...and Drz,  your avatar is too big.  Avatars have a maximum of 64x64 pixels.  I warned somebody else about that, so it's only fair that I warn you too.

I'm not a mod, but if too many people break the rules, the avatars could be taken away from everybody.  And we wouldn't want our nice, law-abiding forum users being punished, now would we?
