Apparently, the story goes the guy discovered an old mountain dew, opened it up. And he supposedly could have won a Super Nintendo. Of Course, the contest was long expired, and as it turns out he needed 2 caps to win.

Well Nintendo and Mountain Dew's social media departments heard about it and they wound up sending him an unoppened SNES and a Wii U with some Mountain Dew swag because its good promotion.

This is stupid.

Dude found an old bottlecap that was one of three pieces - supposedly one of the most common of the three pieces - required to win a Game Boy from an early 90s contest. He then makes bogus claims about how "he would've won a Super Nintendo" online and the companies send him a bunch of swag without any good reason.

Hopefully I'm missing the part where the guy is mentally challenged, because otherwise he definitely does NOT deserve to rewarded for posting BS online.

(Yes, I'm jealous. But I also firmly believe that rewarding people for stupidity isn't something that should be applauded.)

On a more positive note, I miss the days of pop caps and bags of chips having rewards that didn't require you to enter codes online to enter a draw. That was a pretty cool part of my childhood - even if I later found out that there was a pretty hefty amount of corruption with some of the big contests (one well documented example being McDonald's Monopoly).

from reading the page it seems like the story is like 2 years old and there was a glitch in reddit that made it pop back up to the top of the stories.

I was in a gas station the other day in one of those really old dumpy little towns in the country of north Texas, and they were selling Crystal Clear Pepsi. I had to go online to make sure it was Pepsi actually bringing the crap back from the grave and not me just finding an old pop. Then I stumble upon this story and  had to check my pulse to make sure I hadn't slipped into some sorta coma dream, after all I had just finished a  two week marathon of Home Improvement a very iconic 90's sitcom.

Perm thanks for taking me back in time but the next time make it a fun memory not something that is going to make me question my reality.
