Nintendo consoles and software will no longer be distributed in Brazil due to the nation's high import tariffs.

"Starting in January 2015, Gaming do Brasil, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Juegos de Video Latinoamérica, GmbH, will no longer distribute Nintendo products in Brazil," Nintendo said in a statement sent to Game Informer. "Despite the changes in Brazil, Juegos de Video Latinoamérica will continue to be Nintendo's distributor for Latin America and they remain committed to the brand and the region."

That said, it looks like there's a shred of hope Nintendo products will one day return to the country, as the company plans to "monitor the evolution of the business environment and evaluate how best to serve [their] Brazilian fans in the future."

I always feel bad for gamers in Brazil, prices are way too high. Take the PS4 for example, it launched at $1,845. And 63% of that was fro import taxes.

That's Insane.
I really don't understand that on a Video Game system.  There is probably 0 home grown competition to product.  I understand resources, food stuff, parts, etc.  but, anything so niche your just denying it from your public at that point.

well it's really hard to buy a video game here.  but, as i explained. i'm happy because i can buy digital from north america eshop.

in the past, the excuses for not invest in brazil was piracy. i'm okay with that. because ps2, xbox 360, ds and wii was so popular because of that. today, there is no piracy on wiiU and just a very few% on 3ds.

with this current generation, i was excited. reggie came here in in late 2011, and it was a surprise event. we just know that we are going to play mario 3d land weeks before the launch. then he appeared, and promises that brazilian's market going to be priority for nintendo and bla bla bla.

they blame high import tarrifs, but i don't buy it. because the reality is brazil always have those issues. why the posture changes?

the reason that i believed, it's because they are losing money. i don't know how exactly to say that but i'll try.

brazil are facing some economics problems, and with that, the dollar apreciation in front of reais (our currency) meets high level in the last 9 years.

a 3ds full retail game from oficial retailers are priced R$ 150,00. with dolar hitting 2,7 they made only $55,00 dollar.

it's very low compared to 2,1. $71,00 profit when reggie said that nintendo going to invest in brazil.
