capcom vs snk2 question
« on: June 29, 2003, 10:15:11 AM »
I'm considering buying this game but want to know a few things like is gc controller really that bad for this game because I read a review saying it is, but I think they are exagerating. Does it have team battles? I know this is an old game but I live in a cow town where they don't got many games to rent. Last, how good is this game, is it worth buying?

I am wondering the same thing - All of the reviews I have read say to avoid playing Capcom vs. SNK 2 on the GameCube because the GCN controller makes playing the game very awkward. I was considering buying the game because I want a good fighter and I am not sure if I can wait until August 28th for Soul Caliber II. Most stores have the Capcom game for $19.99, and a friend of mine purchased it for his PS2 the other day. We tried it out and it very good. I almost bought it for the Cube but after reading all of the lackluster reviews, I decided to buy Street Fighter Alpha 3 to play on the GameBoy Player instead. Although it looks pretty good for a GameBoy Advance cartridge, I feel like something is missing.

i got the game for $30 canadian a couple of weeks ago. the controls are definately as bad as the reviews make them out to be, basically to the point where the game is unenjoyable to me. i've barely played the thing, and really have no desire to.

yeah, the cube controller is not fighter friendly.. at least not in the street fighter 2D context.. it should be fine for soul calibur2 cuz i played the demo and had no problems...

but there is a controller adapter you can buy where you can use your ps/ps2 controller on your cube.. and that works fine for my capcomvssnk2 sessions. i believe it's called the playcube and it's put out by nyko

I read a review for the adapter to use the PS2 controller on the GC just the other day. I know a lot of people prefer the PS2 controller over the GCN and X-Box, but I honestly think Nintendo's controller feels the most comfortable. I have played my friend's PS2 a few times and I don't like the way the controller is designed. Forget about Microsoft's controller. That thing looks (and feels) like a science experiment gone bad. Maybe I just got used to Nintendo's controller design back in the N-64 days. Even though the GCN controller is shaped differently - the buttons, Analog Stick, D-Pad and C-Stick are all more-or-less in the same general area as they were on the N-64 controller (with the exception of the Z-Button). It feels comfortable to me. What exactly makes the controller so bad for this game?

Its one of the best street fighter games I have ever played........

I doesn't get crazy like most other 2-D fighters, where there are people jumping all over the place and doing 25 hit combos......no nothing like it. It is more precise, more eligant in a way. You have to know what your doing, to do what you want to. No button mashing here....

I play with the GC controller. The game gives you two options, to do special moves with the C-stick (really cheap) or arcade style where you press a certain direction then press a button. I play with the arcade style and sure the GC controller is awkward at first but you get use to it, and then to a point where you feel really comfertable playing with it. Rent it see how you like it, keep playing even if you don't like the controller and then you'll find it great to play.

IN RESPONSE TO ALL THE PEOPLE GRIPING ABOUT THE CONTROLLER
Guys, so what if its hard to play with the gc controller....live with it. Think of it as more of a challenge. I'm doing fine playing with it. I already mastered few of the characters in every style in a short time. Trust me its not hard...you guys probably play a little bit, get fed up and stop playing,,,,that's horrible. Stick with it and stop bitching.

Thank You. That's the kind of response I was looking for. I have already played Capcom Vs. SNK 2 on the PS2 so I know it's definitely something that I am interested in. Like I mentioned earlier - I love the GameCube controller. I find nothing about it awkward at all. Don'tHate - you just helped Nintendo/Capcom earn another $20

*reaches in pocket for $20 - heads on out to the local video game store to buy Capcom Vs. SNK 2: EO*

Well I went ahead and got the game because I saw some other people talking about it and they said it works fine with gc controller on ac ism once you get used to it. Seems like the people who are saying it's terrible didn't really give it a chance so we'll see.

Yeah, Ive had CvSnk2 for a couple of months now and I would have to say it's a must buy.  At first the controls are real horrible and you can hardly beat the computer on normal mode but once you get used to the controls its smooth sailing.  I play with the analog stick and have absolutely no problem at all with the GC controller.  Ive mastered almost every single character in the game and still find a few hours a day to play this game.  Right now its the best fighter out for GC.  I wouldnt pass it up if I were you.

What would be even better is to get one of those replica SNES pads made by Hori. This is exactly the type of game they exist for, and should negate any problems with the original controller.

They're cheap too.
