Xenoblade Chronicles X Detailed During Nintendo Direct
« on: November 05, 2014, 09:40:26 AM »

Travel far outside of New Los Angeles.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38937/xenoblade-chronicles-x-detailed-during-nintendo-direct

Xenoblade Chronicles X was further detailed during today's Nintendo Direct.

Using "New Los Angeles" as a home base, your character, an explorer, sets out on the strange planet to partake in missions. They include hunting various creatures and doing favors for other characters. The story is about a society of people who crash landed a huge spaceship onto the planet in the game.

If you don't always want to be in combat, there is also an exploration mode where you can't get hurt. There is no official release date other than Spring 2015 for Japan, and sometime in 2015 for North America

I'm a staff writer here at good ol' Nintendo World Report, but I also have a Nintendo website at www.nintendogamerthoughts.com

Why? As the press release says "Spring 2015 for Japan, and sometime in 2015 for North America". If they think they can release it in spring in Japan, then it must be pretty close to completion. Considering the large demo time spent on it at the Treehouse at E3, it has clearly been developed quite extensively already.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

I die inside everytime I hear that it's not coming as early as I hoped (first 2014 then early 2015 now maybe 2015), but if this game is half as good as the original Xenoblade it'll be so worth the wait as that is my all time favorite video game.

Khush, I'm just getting a bad feeling from their choice of words. I guess I've heard that too many times this in the year of the delay so I won't be holding my breath to seeing XCX coming out next year in America.

I was mostly joking. I will definitely buy Xenoblade Chronicles X and I want to play it, but life often gets in the way. It's hard for me to devote the amount of time it takes to really get into an RPG (for me, about 10 to 15 hours). Games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. or even games like Super Mario 3D World with relatively short levels that I can pick up and play in quick bursts tend to go much further for me. I started Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii and I liked it, but unfortunately, I put it down for a while then I forgot where I was which prompts restarting and I haven't done that yet.

That makes sense now. Yes that is a game you have to play for longer stretches. For me, I find time slots for games like that about once a week and Xenoblade took to priority for a long time so games like Other M, and skyward sword which I had and liked got pushed back a lot just so that I could keep playing Xenoblade. I'm going X is good enough to do the same.

Well usually when given a good game like Xenoblade or a bad one like Skyward Sword or Other M most people will gravitate towards the good game.

I recall reading somewhere that they are localizing the game while in development this time. Depending on how much text is in this game (probably a lot), I'm really feeling it launching in the end of Q3/start of Q4 timeframe (somewhere between the old Metroid slot and the Bayonetta 2 time this year).

I liked what I played of Xenoblade before my Wii died, but never had the heart to try and re-engage after I got a WiiU. Wasn't too interested in the sequel given how overwhelming I found the first chunk of the first game, but I dig the "explore the planet" set-up of the game, makes it sound less exhausting than a deep-lore j-opera journey.

Lots of people expected Xenoblade Chronicles X to be released in 2014 initially. They were crazy.
Having a "target" of 2015 is reasonable, but people need to remember that targets sometimes shift and (in my experience) that language is almost always used when people aren't sure they can actually make the date.

Just the fact that it's coming is huge though. Nintendo consoles don't often get massive, exclusive RPGs that are sequels to critically acclaimed games. Xenoblade is a fantastic game, and if the sequel is as good then it would be a "killer app" for me - something that fully justifies my Wii U purchase without caring about the other software available.

(Just keeping my fingers crossed that this game doesn't pull a Tales of Symphonia, where the sequel was much less compelling than the original.)

I'm sure "New Los Angeles" sounds very cool to a Japanese person but it sounds very funny to me.  Explore a future world of urban sprawl at 2 mph on a backed up freeway!  But then as a kid I thought a location like Neo Tokyo was super cool, but Tokyo itself is some nifty foreign land to me, probably in the same way Los Angeles would be to a Japanese person.

Exploration was my favourite part of Xenoblade.  I'd look at the map and notice "hey, I haven't been there yet!" and then I'd head off to see what's there.  On one hand it would be nice to explore without enemies kicking my ass the whole time.  On the other hand, not having the obstacle would probably make it too easy for me to explore real quickly and then have to slog through the less interesting elements to get to the next area to explore.  The battles force me to balance exploration and fighting.  Without the carrot of clearing out the enemies in an area so I can explore it fully I would probably lack the motivation to clear out the enemies until I had to, forcing choke points of the more tedious parts of the game.

But it's an option so I could always just not play it that way.  I like options and I'm fine with accommodating casual play with them.  It's only when they dumb the game down for everybody that I get upset.

2015 was my obvious assumption for the release date because, what, it's going to be strung on us within the next month to make 2014?  How would that have been feasible?

They said 2015 at E3, but I was hoping early 2015 instead we get "aiming for 2015"

All I want is confirmation on online play. Much as I liked Xenoblade, I don't think I want to go through a game like that again without online play. It just seems like it's made for it.
