So Monster is making tablets now?
« on: September 22, 2013, 06:17:22 PM »
Monster is selling their new M7 at Walmart right now (a 10" version is coming soon). For $150, you get 16GB storage (with a microSD slot), an 1280x800 IPS screen, GPS functionality, dual cameras, and a textured back plate. So basically it's the same thing as the ASUS Memo Pad HD, which I'm also interested in.

Should I give it a shot? I can't afford a $200+ tablet right now, and I need something with at least 16GB storage, a good screen, decent specs (etc.). I don't care about hacking or rooting, so 8GB+SD card won't do anything for me.

The ASUS Memo Pad is a horrible piece of ****. If you want the best bang for your (very little) buck, then get the Hisense Sero 7 at Wal-Mart (most of them have it in stockk). It's an upgrade from the 2012 Nexus 7 for $129. If it's anything else like Monster Products, then even at $150 it's severely overpriced. I haven't read much about this thing, but it seems it's just a re-branded cheap tablet from China or something like that. Get the Hisense - the screen isn't very good, but it's worth the price and then some.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA

The original Asus Memo Pad is mediocre, but the new HD version has been getting good reviews. Asus made the Nexus 7, so I expect good things from them.

I've heard mixed things about the Hisense Sero 7 tablets. The one with the bad screen is the "LT" version, which is $99, but it only comes with 4GB storage. The Hisense Sero 7 Pro is the one with the IPS screen and a Tegra 3 CPU, but it only has 8GB storage.

I need a tablet with at least 16GB storage and a good screen for around $200 or less. That's my main requirement. The upcoming Kindle Fire HDX looks very impressive...

SD cards are useless since you can't download apps from Google Play to the SD card, unless Android KitKat finally allows that feature.

What's the point of expanding storage if you can't use it for apps?

Who needs more than 8GB for apps? And on the Sero 7 you can root it an install Link2SD and move your apps to the SD card.

A lot of games are small as in the app, but then they download huge files for the game content, which are stored on an SD card, if you have one.

8GB (actually less because of the OS taking up space) isn't enough for really anything. Even with an SD card, you can't download apps from Google Play directly to external storage. That's why I want a tablet with at least 16GB storage built in.

And that Sero tablet most likely won't get much support from a no-name company like Hisense. I'd rather get a tablet from a reputable company like Asus or Samsung, or better yet I'll just go all Nexus.

I'd rather not hack my device just to use an SD card for basic features. Hell, the 3DS and Vita require you to download apps to the SD card, so why does Google restrict it? Don't say "piracy", because if that was the case, then Nintendo and Sony wouldn't allow it either.

Anyways, my point still stands. 8GB (actually 5 when you factor the OS taking up space) gets filled up fast, so I need at least 16GB storage.

And how do you know game files are stored on the SD card?

You aren't hacking your android device, you're rooting it. Jailbreak/hack does not equal rooting.

Jailbreaking and rooting are essentially the same thing, they're just called different things.
