Correction:

In the original story below, we reported that the Frog Suit was making a return to Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U. While the Nintendo developers did mention the Frog Suit when presenting the game, it was only as part of a joke. The presenters were pointing out how Luigi looked like in the new Cat Suit (all green), how it reminded them of the Frog Suit, and how it would be funny if that was also part of the game.

So while the developers seem to have the Frog Suit in mind, eager amphibians will still need to wait for a full confirmation. Nintendo World Report will keep its eyes out for any developments as they hop onto the scene.

The Frog Suit power-up, which made its first appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES, will appear in Super Mario 3D World, as confirmed during a Wii U software presentation at E3.

According to IGN, while donning the Frog Suit, Mario and company will be able to extend out a long tongue to eat enemies, similar to Yoshi. It is unknown if the power-up will also improve the characters' swimming abilities, which was its primary function in SMB3.

This is the third suit to be confirmed for the game, following the reveal of the Cat Bell and Fire Flower at the game's announcement. Super Mario 3D World is coming to Wii U in December 2013.

In my original post I commented upon Nintendo's newly announced game Super Mario 3D World and reports that it was to include a suit from Super Mario Bros 3, a classic Nintendo Entertainment System game released in 1990. Further clarification has now revealed that this is not in fact the case, but rather was a joke made by the developers and lost in translation.

On the suit itself though, Super Mario Bros 3 is the greatest Mario game ever made, so I can't really blame Nintendo for their incessant allusions to that masterpiece lol. However, even for me (a person whose childhood was defined by SMB3) the references to that game have become a little tiresome. The only thing left for them to do now is trot out Kuribo's shoe and an angry Sun and call it a day.

I don't think the Frog Suit being called back is tiresome. The Racoon/Tanookie returning in 3D Land and NSMB2 over did it for me.

But uh, I think Kurobi's Shoe is already back. If the trailer is anything to go by, its essentially back.

At this point, I want Mario: Animal Adventures, where he wears a platypus suit, a horsey suit, and a giraffe suit. Of course a greyhound fur tuxedo would be best.

I never liked the Frog Suit that much. It was mildly useful in the water, but there were not a lot of water levels and it was terrible out of the water. If you were gonna bring back a suit that hasn't been around in awhile, make it the Hammer Bros. Suit or Goomba's Shoe.
