Monster Hunter 3G Coming at Wii U Launch in Japan, Worldwide Later
« on: September 14, 2012, 05:09:05 AM »

Capcom releasing popular title on Wii U outside of Japan too!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31679

An HD version of Monster Hunter 3G HD, known as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate in the West, is coming to the Wii U on launch day, December 8, in Japan. Players will be able to purchase the game stand alone or as a special Wii U bundle that comes with the Wii U console, a Wii U Pro controller and the game. The bundle will retail for 38,850 yen with taxes.

Players will be able to transfer save data from the Nintendo 3DS version of the game and use it in the Wii U version. Players will also be able to join others online in their quest to hunt other monsters. Not only that, but players will be able to play together cross platform locally. Monster Hunter 3G HD will release on the Wii U in North America and Europe next March. The Nintendo 3DS version will also see a release in the West at that time.

Best Nintendo-related news I've heard in... 2012?  Probably.  Definitely the upcoming 3DS game I'm most excited about, even if it is a Tri rehash instead of an all-new game.

I am so freaking hyped about this news.  I'll be one of the suckers who buys the game twice.

People keep telling me that Tri and 3G are not the same game.  So I don't think it's a rehash.

Yeah Tri and 3G are not the same game. Roy from the My Fair Hunter podcast did a write up on the differences.http://www.kotowari.org/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-coming-to-wii-u-and-3ds/

Also here is Monster Hunter 3G page on the wiki. http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Hunter_3_G

I understand it's not actually the same game as Tri and that it will include new monsters, weapons, quests, and environments... but it still sounds like an improved and expanded rehash instead of a full sequel (ie: MH4) from everything I've read. I'm not saying this with any negativity intended. I'm totally excited about the game and will definitely be buying. I don't even care if it's got online - although that would sweeten an already incredible deal.

Wasn't Tri just an improved and expanded rehash of Freedom Unite?  Seems like these games don't change a huge amount from game to game, just like Pokemon.

Actually you are mistaken Louie. Tri was basically a new start to the series because the past games mechanically were broken and by that I mean many of the monsters hitboxes were broken and it was not really balanced. So with Tri they started over and fixed everything. Also one of the creators of the series or game said that he wanted to start over and make everything work.

I understand that, but the way ejamer put it, Tri and 3G were the same game, just with enhancements for one over the other.  So I went with an even bigger and exaggerated generalization.  That's all.  I know they are completely different outside of the basic principle of fight and collect the monsters.

Except my statement wasn't an overblown exaggeration. There is a reason that Monster Hunter 3G doesn't get a new number: because it's based off the same code as Tri (ie: Monster Hunter 3).  Changes and improvements were made, but it's still the same base game - unlike Monster Hunter 4 which makes much larger changes.

It's like the difference between getting Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Street Fighter 3. Maybe all you want is an amped up version of a game you already love, and there is nothing wrong with that. But maybe you want something that is new from the ground up instead.

Or to use the Pokemon comparison: if you already own and have completed Pokemon Pearl, would you be more excited about the release of Pokemon Platinum or Pokemon Black? Which would you be more likely to buy?

Hate on my statement all you want. I stand by it. This game is a rehash of Tri with some extra content, and it's going to be great on the 3DS.

By the way, no online for 3DS confirmed.  If you want to change that, start talking on Capcom's MH forums. I'm buying either way, but local-only multiplayer would likely mean it's a solo affair for me.
