Nintendo Considering Wii U Pre-Installed Software
« on: June 06, 2012, 02:18:41 PM »

Nothing says "Welcome to Nintendo Land" like free admission.

Nintendo will be considering pre-installed software on Wii U in some markets. This came up as part of the Nintendo analysts meeting at E3 2012. Although they didn't reveal any specifics, they have mentioned multiple times during the event, most recently during the Developers Roundtable, that they consider Nintendo Land to be to Wii U what Wii Sports was to Wii, making it the obvious candidate.

Nintendo has been pre-installing software on their handhelds since the 2009 release of Nintendo DSi XL. The Nintendo 3DS came installed with Face Raiders and AR Games.

I think Nintendo Land will have to be directly on the hardware. Isn’t it supposed to function somewhat like Mii Plaza, or is that what the home screen is for? That’s what I’m confused about; how do Nintendo Land and Miiverse function together?

As a lesson from the launch of the Wii and the 3DS, Nintendo will surely choose to package Nintendo Land in as a disk rather than digitally, directly on the hardware. That is, if they do not sell it separately all together. If it's sold separately, then consumers will get to decide wheather they want it physically or digitally. If it's included in the system, they will not have that choice.

NintendoLand would need to be a part of AC or much much bigger to warrant anything other then a cheap digital download or on the system.  This game should have no disk.

I would really enjoy it if NintendoLand was on the harddrive right away.

it should be a free download. and the system should direct you to the store and show you how to download it. that should be the first thing that happens when you turn it on. they need to get people to their estores.

only nintendo would bother pressing discs of a game they intent to give away for free.

Yeah, I've been wondering if Nintendo would have free-downloadable pack-ins as an incentive to get EVERY Wii U user online and educated as to how to use the eShop...

That's really the only benefit of not having it on the hardware itself. But I'm wondering how well that would work.

I wonder why I have a physical disc of Forza Motorsport 3 that came free with the Xbox 360 I bought? Did Nintendo secretly take a Microsoft game and bundle it with a Microsoft system with Microsoft knowing?

Pre-installed or not, Nintendo Land definitely seems like a good pack-in game that would introduce people to the system. Introducing then to Nintendo's franchises is just a bonus.

I hope Nintendo Land is pre-installed. I don't think it would have the same attraction that Wii Sports did. That was such an easy sell and I'm not sure people love amusement parks as much as Nintendo think they do. Also if worlds were populated with Nintendo characters they'd seem more inviting to me.

They dont..Miiverse is just what Nintendo is calling their online, like XBLA. Apparently the home screen will open with this and it will be like Mii Plaza. Nintendo Land is a unrealated game.

Actually, Nintendo Network is the name of their online network that will be competing with Xbox Live and PSN.

Miiverse is just the social element. It's basically what you get when you combine the Mii Plaza and Facebook.

I really don't think it'll be preinstalled.  If the rumors are true and there is only 8GBs of space on there and a good amount will probably be taken up by the OS and MiiVerse, then nobody would want that extra space being taken up by this game.  We'd rather put it on an external drive or SD card to preserve the space I would think.

The idea that it was a download game and the Wii U taught the user how to go to the eshop and download it so they'd know how to get on the eshop and use it sounds like an excellent idea.

I'm still mad at Nintendo for not including a gigabit ethernet port.  I know you can get a usb adapter but unless the usb ports are 3.0, then it would be impossible to get gigabit with usb 2.0's 480megabit max speed.
