Exactly what I was going to point out. The Bay Area is home to lots of industry in the U.S., so even if they couldn't do SF, San Jose might also be a good fit and only slightly less of a convenience for me ;)
They've had GDC in San Jose before, so it's certainly possible.

I was reading about the ONE that was held in Tokyo, and apparently it was pretty awful. The same year there was one in LA, but they wanted to give it a go in Tokyo in early November. Sega and Sony pulled out of going (it was 1995 or 96) and Nintendo was the only one of the "big three" who ended up going making the show kind of a flop. It'll probably never come here again. If it did, I don't think it would be quite the disaster (day of crisis) that the first one was, but getting all of the industry people there from the US and other countries would be a potential hassle.

Like Aaron said, with most of the industry media and companies being based in the Bay area, that seems the most likely candidate. Though Chicago would be a cool place to have it...[/Illinois love...I'm from Illinois]

Plenty of other third world cities in California to choose from, I would recommend Santa Ana or Blythe for starters.

I'm sure a lot of you have seen the various articles discussing if E3 is even a worth-while trade show at this point.

I say ditch E3, pump the money into PAX Prime and PAX East.   You've got both coasts covered, they're held at two different times the year, allowing companies a good reason to hold off showing games that are slightly further off in development than they'd like and they're more of what the industry needs.

While I may be the most vocal saying that E3 is for retailers, investors and press, let's face it - there are far, far better ways for companies to get their product in front of retailers and investors without expecting them to spend a week in a hotel 8 states away.  And the press will go wherever the story is. :D

And, with more support, perhaps we can have a PAX Midwest. :D
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Holding it in Tokyo would be a waste given that TGS already exists. Especially since Japanese games are becoming a smaller and smaller segment of the market.

If they do that it may be a good time to try and change the show up a little bit. I since some have been complaining there were not many game announcements which is one of the "big things" that made E3. I think it is time they try and do something like Gamescom and maybe hold it closer to the "holiday" season to become a definitive showcase for the games coming out for the holidays and in to the next year..

And if they change it to the East Coast/Midwest I may start going again. It was just too expensive for me (flight etc) in LA.
