Shantae, the hard-to-find Game Boy Color classic, is coming to 3DS Virtual Console eventually, according to WayForward's Matt Bozon.

Currently, WayForward is waiting to hear back from the ESRB, and after that, it will be up to Nintendo to decide when exactly the game will come out.

The game was published by Capcom originally, and as such, the Capcom logos will be removed for the Virtual Console release. WayForward holds rights to the game.

Shantae received a DSiWare sequel, subtitled Risky's Revenge, in 2010. Another game in the series is always on the mind of WayForward, specifically series mastermind Matt Bozon, but they are currently determining when and where the series will continue.

I normally look for the physical copy for my Game Boy collection, but an exception will be made for this purchase because Shantae is like $200 cartridge-only. It's great we will actually get to play it!

Well, the coming soon is out of WayForward's hands. They will be done their work soon. Then it is up to Nintendo to launch that. Remember that three month Virtual Console drought? Yea, so does WayForward.

Also, a new Shantae isn't confirmed, but WF wants to do one. So I didn't want to raise the hopes up of everybody for something that could happen this year or in three years.

It's either that or I say it's coming soon and everyone gets pissed off when it doesn't come out for a few months. Let's just celebrate that Shantae is coming, guys.

This is nice news. But there's plenty of VC games still in purgatory that I would like to come out. I am a patient person, and it's good seeing a steady stream of VC titles coming out these past several weeks.

Regardless, I'm still waiting for Kid Icarus 2 and Wario Land. heh

I've only played the DSi Ware sequel, but I enjoyed it enough that I'd be interested to play the original. I wonder what the likelihood is that this would be released in Europe?

I'll double check with WayForward, but I'm pretty sure they own the rights to it in Europe, so yes, it is likely coming to Europe. If Risky's Revenge came out to Europe without issue, then the original would make it out, too.
