Boom Blox Bash Party, EA Sports Active 2, and more will soon lose online capabilities.

EA will be shutting down the online servers for a number of their games on April 13, according to the company.

The full list of Nintendo Wii games that will lose their online functionality are:
- Boom Blox Bash Party
- EA Create
- EA Sports Active 2.0
- EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp
- FIFA 10

If you have any interest in going back to do anything with these games online, now is the time to do so.

Boom Blox Bash Party had a lot of great user created levels on there. Wish my file wouldn't have been lost due to my Wii going boom.

This destroys the one and only reason why the Online Pass thing might ever have been a good idea. If they are still shutting down even the games which have it, then what good is it? I would never buy an online pass. If the game includes it, fine, but I would never spend extra on one, because the plug is still going to be pulled eventually regardless.

Hah, yeah. Apparently, EA doesn't care how worse and worse they look as long as they save the trivial amount of cash used to have a master server running. It's even more unnecessary when you consider the bulk of the online play is handled peer-to-peer.

Heh. Having the scheme read as "Used Game Penalty" probably wouldn't go over as well. It would be honest though. Oh, another stupid thing is that online support for The Saboteur (a single-player game) will be pulled and some extra content will be unavailable (legitimately, at least). I think the content included nudity for the game's gentleman's club hideout.

I wouldn't mind so much when they did this for older games if it didn't make some achievements impossible to get.

Imagine how pissed someone buying an Online Pass now must be knowing that paid $10 for it and will get to play online for less than a month. Makes me glad that most publishers don't host their own servers. I could still play a non-EA Xbox Live game from 2006 if I wanted (and could find others online).

Is there content I need to download for Bash Party before the server goes down?  Frankly, I suspect the on-disc game content is all I'll care about and it's all I've spent time with so far...

As I recall, you can NOT download the user created content for BBBP, just temporarily grab it from the server and play it.
This is why this news particularly sucks. There are some really excellent user levels and soon, POOF, they will all disappear.

It was actually a pretty cool way to make the experience more than just a game, by letting you track and view your progress online.  Losing it won't really detract from the experience... but it was a neat feature!
