Demos Available Now in the Japan eShop
« on: December 07, 2011, 05:15:49 AM »

Seven demos (including Monster Hunter and Puyo Puyo) are available for download on the Japan eShop!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/28626

Seven separate downloadable demos debuted today on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan. The demos are completely free and are currently limited to the Land of the Rising Sun.

The following games have demos on the eShop in Japan: Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G, Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, Cooking Mama 4, Crayon Shin Chan: Uchū DE Achō! Yūjō! no Baka Rate, Nicola Kanshū Model Oshare Audition, Hana to Ikimono no Rittai Zukan, and Dead or Alive Dimensions.

After downloading, players can play the demos up to 30 times each before they become disabled.

It's a shame that there is a limit. But if you play through a demo 30 times, then you probably like what the game is showing you. My most played demo in recent memory is Just Cause 2's 30 minute demo and I don't think I played it more than 20 times.

I hope we'll be seeing such demos on other countries' eShops. Also, I hope there the demos will be available for the life time of the service.

Enner, I couldn't agree with you more. Chances are if you play that much, you probably like it enough to warrant a purchase.

One thing, too, is that the number of times you have left to play the demo appears below the logo on the 3D screen. Also, I think that if the demos don't have to be reset, you can potentially play the same demo without leaving the game indefinitely and have it still count as one play. I'm still testing this stuff out though, and will let everyone know if this isn't the case.

Yeah I think that's right - one play of a demo could be hours potentially, however the Monster Hunter one also has a time limit of 20 minutes probably pre-empting the fact people would spend hours on it..
One of the demos (the flower/insect cataloguing software) is limited to 10 times though I think.

But I have full retail games that I haven't played more than 30 times.
I urge everyone to check their Wii/3DS play counts, that game you think you've played "loads" might surprise you...

Sure it's stupid, but if this is what it takes to keep Nintendo happy and for us to get demos, who cares!
Now they just need to make it mandatory for eShop games and VC games.
For VC games I'd expect a time limit, say 5 minutes or so. (like Brawl did)

I'm going to be really pissed off if US doesn't get demos and Nintendo plays favorites with Japan again.

I don't think that limited play demos is an issue. If this is what it takes to get Nintendo to offer demos with their fear of people not buying the game afterward, then I'm for it. 30 times is definitely a lot as well, even 10 times would be plenty. I don't think I've played a demo more than once, except maybe the Fish 'Em All demo just because it was so bad I had to reconfirm it.

I don't get what their fear is. The WiiWare demos were a big success.

The will of Yamauchi (or whoever at Nintendo thought that players will just play the demo instead of purchasing the full game) must still be strong in the company.
