Episode 12: Leave Me Alone
« on: December 10, 2011, 04:19:20 PM »

We're talking about big news and small games on this week's Connectivity.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/connectivity/28647

Well, here we are again with another episode of Connectivity for your wonderful little ear-holes. There might have been some big news this week, something about the guy who created Mario Bros (what's his name?) retiring or something. One thing there is surely a lot of is listener mail. There was so much we actually couldn't fit it all in one episode, so we'll be spreading the listener love out over the next few shows.

Also, do you like Pushmo and Michael Jackson? If so, our second segment is perfect for you since we talk about both of those things. And finally, Zach is super pissed about problems he's been having with his Wii and 3DS, so we let him blow off some steam.

Since you love us so much, you should submit more questions by clicking here. You should also review us on iTunes, because that's what real fans do. But only if they have something nice to say! Got it? Good. See you next week.

i'm really sorry Zack . You didn't back up any of it on SD card before sending it to Nintendo? Or was the wii so bad you couldn't even do that?

Keep the suggestions for a name for the new segment coming! We've gotten a few emailed to us, but you can post them here, too. We'll probably pick our favorite in the next day or so, so get them in!

Now I have a Wii for Wii games (the new one) and a Wii for GC/VC/WiiWare games (my old one). I guess it all worked out. I also got my router issue figured out--it was the router itself. Mario Kart plays fine online at my brother's house and my friend Luke's house. So I need a new router.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

Mike was (rightfully) complaining that the eShop doesn't let you buy the exact amount of points you need. I'd heard elsewhere that the new update lets you add exactly the amount you need for a new game. Is that incorrect?

If just filling up your eShop wallet then you still can't specify an exact number when adding funds - only the usual increments of $5/$10/$20 (or whatever it was before).

However, if you try to buy software when you don't have enough money in your eShop account, then there is an option to top up to exactly what is required instead of buying a full increment of credit. This feature and saving (password protected) credit card information to the 3DS system are huge improvements that make downloading new games much easier.

Gotcha. Thanks for the heads-up! Especially since I know I would've messed up the first time if you hadn't told me about that...

Hey Scott, I think there are quite a few states where you don't have to pay tax for eshop purchases.   In california, we don't, which is why I've never felt the need to buy any of those points cards, because for some stupid reason, if I walk into Best Buy to buy one of those things, they WOULD charge me tax, and it's freaking 8.25% here!

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

You better enjoy it now, Amazon is supporting efforts by Congress to make all states collect sales tax from digital purchases (just like some states already do). So sooner or later you will have to pay that sales tax whether you buy the points from a point card or directly from the eShop.

Technically, in most places, you're already supposed to be paying tax on things you buy online, only the retailer doesn't collect it and you have to pay it directly to your state, but nobody enforces it.

9.25% here in TN and eShop charges it.
