References I didn't get till I watched the movie
« on: December 04, 2011, 07:43:59 PM »
Joke: Silence of the Lambs: a man dances around in a robe and stuffs his junk between his legs, rubbing his nipples to the song goodbye horses by Q. Lazarus.

movie: Joe Dirt
movie: Clerks II

joke: A clockwork orange. A person sits in a chair drinking milk, surrounded by a strange set of characters, with an angry look on his face while the camera slowly zooms out to some Beethoven intro music.

game: Conkers Bad Fur Day

EASYCURE: I remember thinking(don't ask me why) this was a blond haired, blue eyed, chiseled athlete. Like he looked like Seigfried before he became Nightmare.

by the time I was 15 both of those movies had become obscure. When I was a kid at the video store I thought silence of the lambs was about evil butterflies killing lambs. I used to walk by it and see its cover. Now I knew wtf pumpkinhead was, because there was a 6 foot stand and it was on HBO all the time.

I know it's considered a classic, but I hate A Clockwork Orange. I watched it a couple of years ago, and thought it was boring and just plain bad.

A History of the World Part 1

While in Rome, there is a blind guy walking around saying 'Give to Oedipus'. And Josephus walks by and greets him 'Hey mother fucker!'.

For some reason, it took me a years to get that reference...

Which is funny because he didn't know she was his mother, and when he found out, immediately stabbed out his eyes and stepped down from the throne, while his wife/mother killed herself. Which plays into that scene so wonderfully, one of my favorite scenes from a movie full of awesome scenes.

oh i didn't see the movie, I read the play in high school English class. Whats even funnier is I didn't remember all that violent awesomeness. Just that he fucked his mom and that's gross. Heres a tip if you're a bastard orphan and don't know who your mom is...don't **** older women.

Per usual, the book is much better. Still, I find it hard to believe that anyone could hate on a single piece Kubrick's work... even given the failure that was Lolita.

I'm more concerned (or sad) for people that watch films like Joe Dirt before Silence of the Lambs or A Clockwork Orange. :P

well, I don't think I had even heard of a Clockwork Orange until 2005. The thing is these movies were already 20-30 years old by the time I watched them. They didn't get any t.v. play on even premium networks like HBO. So, there is no advertising for them. Then you finally get some word of mouth stuff going on and its like "i should watch these". The main reason I wanted to watch it was because I liked The Shining, so instead of renting it I just bought it. I still haven't watched 2001 Space Odyssey. Which is a lie. I rented it and got delayed from watching it. Then I was watching it and fell asleep. Then I woke up and looked at the time and I had to rush over to the blockbuster and return it so as not to get a late fee. Didn't make it. Never rented from that blockbuster again. Its been on tv, but I always see its in the middle, and I don't watch movies from the middle.

Joe Dirt had a massive marketing campaign when it came out in 2001 when I was 17. I don't remember if I payed to watch it at the movies, but probably not. I think the family ended up renting it.

Heres an awesome thing about the Matrix. When I went to go watch it, I hadn't seen any trailers or any previews for it, so I had no idea what it was going to be about. My brother had just wanted to go to the movies and I didn't mind going so we went.  It was the first night playing so there wasn't any buzz yet. So im watching this movie about hackers, and then it suddenly turns into a crazy dystopian sci-fi movie. Didn't expect that at all. Most pleasant surprise ever. Sometimes its better to watch a movie with no expectations.
