Monster Hunter 3G Currently Japan Only
« on: September 14, 2011, 12:03:36 AM »

Monster Hunter fans in the west may have to wait awhile to get their fix on 3DS.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/27825

It has been confirmed by Capcom that the upgraded port of Monster Hunter Tri for the Nintendo 3DS, titled Monster Hunter 3G, is not currently planned for release outside of Japan where it is currently scheduled for a release later this year.

The game was the first to be shown in conjunction with the additional Circle Pad attachment for 3DS. It was officially announced as part of the Nintendo 3DS Conference along with Monster Hunter 4, also for 3DS.

Yes, just remind me of this sad fact.  :'(

Why oh why are RPG type games no longer allowed on Nintendo platforms?

Might be more on Capcom's side since Monster Hunter Portable 3rd for the PSP has yet to be localized for North America.

Yeah, I don't think this will be released outside of Japan, just like Monster Hunter G on the Wii wasn't. CapCom will release Monster Hunter 4 worldwide instead, and I don't think there is enough interest in the series outside of Japan to make it worthwhile to release two of them around the same time.

OK, so let me just point out a blindingly obvious thing that everyone on the internet (and Nintendo) are seem to be oblivious to:

The PSP versions of Monster Hunter are some of the best selling games in Japan, they sell systems, they are the sole reason why the PSP dominates in Japan and Japan only YET:

THE PSP DOES NOT HAVE A SECOND ANALOGUE STICK.

(The PSP has the exact same button layout as the 3DS, the only difference is that the d-pad and sticks are flipped)

So remind me again why Japanese people would ever need a 2nd stick via a massive add-on to play this game?

Have you played Monster Hunter on PSP? Google: Monster Hunter claw

You don't NEED a second analog stick. It just makes it easier. Of course, if Capcom put effort into actually rethinking the controls, maybe claw gaming wouldn't be a thing.

A lot of games will benefit from the right circle pad. I'm not convinced most of them absolutely need it. The only game announced to be compatible with the attachment that I'm actually interested in is Resident Evil: Revelations. I played the demo. It was perfectly fine with RE4 style controls.

The problem comes from the fact that the the d-pad and the circle pad are flipped on the 3DS. The way people play Monster Hunter on the PSP requires that they can use their index finger to reach the d-pad, to move the camera. However, that cannot be done with the 3DS.

Seems like the touch screen could easily do that job.

I've been making that argument on MH board and man no one wants to hear any of that.  Also point out that the controls for the camera are on the Touchscreen in the screen shot...

Yeah. They could possibly even improve them by using swipe gestures instead of just trying to simulate buttons.

There are a number of ways Capcom could have gotten around this issue, but why would they do that when forcing Nintendo's hand was so easy?

Fixed.   Hand would imply that Nintendo was planning on doing this for there own games all along.  Which I can safely assure they didn't.
