Tetris Coming to 3DS
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:46:48 PM »

Tetris goes 3D for the second time (if you include Virtual Boy).

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26526

A version of Tetris for 3DS is hitting retail shelves this October, according to Tetris Online.

Tetris Online will publish the game, and it is likely that Majesco could be the North American distributor, as they secured the Wii and DS rights to the series in 2009, and followed it up with a retail release of Tetris Party Deluxe on Wii and DS in 2010. Hudson, developer of those versions, was listed as making a version of Tetris for 3DS at E3 2010, but the company no longer exists independently, having been absorbed into Konami. However, their name is still listed on the Australian Classification Board rating for the game, which appeared last month.

Tetris was previously released in 3D on the Virtual Boy with two games: V-Tetris and 3D Tetris. V-Tetris, which never came out in North America, was a traditional game of Tetris with a cylindrical puzzle mode. 3D Tetris, the last game released on the system in North America, used a 3D playing field (meaning the blocks could be turned horizontally and vertically) that was unlike traditional Tetris.

The game will be playable at Nintendo's booth at E3 2011.

When I saw that the ESRB had rated Tetris for 3DS, I thought they meant for the Virtual Console. I was very disappointed.

I was hoping for it to be on e-shop too. Oh well DSi version is still available

Tetris DS re-release or bust, since The Grand Master series will never f-ing happen.

It needs to be just a re-release of Tetrisphere (Tetris 64) with all the additional modes (multiplayer and single player) of Tetris Party. Instant million seller.

Oh, and released on the eShop. Puzzle games like Tetris and Picross 3D should never have a retail only release going forward. I want them on my system permanently.

On some DS revision (I think the DSi), someone was quoted as saying they looked at putting dual cartridge slots into the system, but they didn't like how "big" it made the system.

I can't imagine it making the system too much bigger and I'd *love* dual cartridge slots.  Actually, I'd like three, as NSMB is *always* with me, then I could have whichever puzzle game I'm currently into and whichever new game I'm playing.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Fortunately, the 3DS is quite capable of offering us those games in downloadable form (without resorting to R4 carts and such, not my thing). I have no hopes for past puzzle games but going forward, I would really love puzzlers to eventually find their way to the eShop in their complete form.

That's interesting, but defeats the purpose of the sleek design for me.

What's possibly ironic is that they then followed it up with the DSi XL. They could have just added the extra cartridge slot to the XL since that thing is huge anyway.

Could've just been 3DSWare but who knows? Maybe the developer will make this worth 40 dollars and taking up the cart slot.

Now get to work on Picross 3DS.  :P:

I doubt most people will get that.

That looks cool.  Shame it won't work for my 3DS since I have the Nyko Extended battery.  Though it may be nice for my DSLite that my Son is now using.
