Didn't games require it?  Perfect Dark, Majora's Mask, Donkey Kong 64, and whatever other 64 game I forgot to mention that required the expansion.

the GCN ram could actually be upgrade by 30mb (total 70something mbram) and exceed Xbox 64mb
the expansion pack for the n64 made a huge difference, you people all throw it aside and try to minimize the actual outcome but you
know what a quality boost a double resolution is, IMO playing became much more pleaseant with the expansion pack, and if I played Perfect Dark for instance without the expansion pack it would have killed me, I hated PD without expansion pack
