Where's Mario Party 9??
« on: September 01, 2009, 03:04:45 PM »
It's like Nintendo just stopped. I always look forward to the next one, but so far...nothing! If anyone knows why this is, could you shed some light on this subject?

Thanks,
Pac-Man

Incidentally the latest MailBag states a rumor that Hudson who develops these games are no longer interested in making any more Mario Party games.

Also, Nintendo is in no hurry to make more Party games due to the success of the Wii Sports brand.

Wii Party? Wii Sports: Party?

Let the rumors fly.

Though some have suspected the new one is being made to support the M+. Dokapon Kingdom is better than Mario Party for me so I'm content, but I know a number of people here who would like a new one. Mop it up especially.

Nintendo did also make a board-game  for WiiWare called PictureBook Games: Pop-Up Pursuit. I heard mixed things about it.

Well, I realize not everyone is a fan of the series. However, I happen to be and enjoy playing these types of games with the fam. Just a disappointment if Hudson quits making them, but if they did, it wouldn't surprize me considering they quit another great series-Military Madness.

I don't see why it can't exist. The Wii would be the perfect system to revitalize the series, especially since Mario Party 8 started life as a GameCube game.

I just can't imagine Hudson would want to give up a million-seller like Mario Party. MP8 was the best-selling in the series, and I'm sure Mario Party 9 could top that. Although, MP8 is still on store shelves, so maybe they're just going to ride that one out.

I've heard about the MM coming to WiiWare, but since I have yet to see any pics, I sort of dismissed the rumor. It would be great to play a new one.

Anyway, I agree with the earlier submission about it not making any since that Hudson would quit a series that makes them serious coin. Maybe they will create it in the near future.

Reminds me that I need to get Military Madness on the VC soon.

Is Mario Party 8 still selling well, though? It may be on shelves, but those could just be collecting dust. If it's an evergreen title then we may just have a long while to wait for it.

I thought this over, and there could be two possible reasons for why we haven't seen another Mario Party yet:

1. Hudson just doesn't want to do it, plain and simple.
2. Nintendo wants to make a Wi-Fi edition for either Wii or DS/i, but they might be running into some problems.

Or the non-casual/casual audience just don't care about Mario Party anymore. MP DS is a good local multiplayer game (cardless mini-game marathon is the ****), but having no WiFi kind of killed it some.

Also, Wii Sports is a better party game.

I'm not sure about the current figures but games don't just sit on store shelves if they don't sell. The store would find some way to clear the inventory, either by having a special sale, shipping it off to some other store, or even sending it back to the manufacturer.

I don't believe that at all considering Mario Party 8 is the best-selling in the series.

And the Wii can handle only one party game, right?

No.

Wii Sports was a better experience because it wasn't a Cube game with tacked on Wii controls. Wii Sports Resort, even better then that thanks to M+.

Personal taste and so forth is partially my reason for posting that comment.

Just because it's the best selling game doesn't exactly mean anything to me. A small group of people I know who own a Wii bought the game, played it a couple of times, and it's appeal wore out. Why? See my reply above. If Nintendo/Hudson built another MP ground up for Wii, and added WiFi, I might give a damn about another Mario Party.

Might.

A small group of people I know who own a Wii bought the game, played it a couple of times, and it's appeal wore out.
And so based on that infinitesimal sample you assume that all 7 million people who bought the game did the same thing?

If Nintendo/Hudson built another MP ground up for Wii, and added WiFi, I might give a damn about another Mario Party.
I imagine they would do that, there's no reason not to. I don't know if it would have online play or not, the current structure wouldn't work well with it. But they could design a special online mini-game mode or something. In any case, the game wouldn't be for you, it'd be for the millions of us who like Mario Party and want more.

Absolutely not, I know people like Mario Party 8, but after the Mario Party 64 games, I felt the series lost it's luster.

Personal opinion only. Sales figures basically beat my comments with a bloody baseball bat and leave it to die. Nintendo wouldn't give two shits what I have to say. For all we know, Mario Party 8's sales could be funding it's big A+ titles. (and 7 million copies means... god knows how money yen.)
