Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Will Feature Mii Support
« on: January 06, 2010, 04:32:36 PM »
Players will be able to race as their Mii against iconic Sega characters like Ryo Hazuki and Miles "Tails" Prower.

SEGA has revealed on the SEGA America Blog that Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing will allow players to race as their Mii in the Wii edition of the title. Just like the SEGA mainstays, Miis will have a unique "All Star" move that can give straggling racers a helpful boost.

The SEGA-centric racer is being developed by Sumo Digital, makers of the home ports of OutRun 2 and last year's Sega Superstars Tennis. Interestingly, the Wii version of the game is not the only one to get an exclusive feature. Rare's Banjo Kazooie and the Xbox 360's Avatars will appear in the Xbox 360 version of the title.

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is slated to hit store shelves in March for both the Wii and DS.

After Sega announced the Xbox 360 version would support Avatars, I figured it was only a matter of time before they announced that the Wii version would support Miis. It looks like an OK game, not sure I would pay $50 for it though.

Sega, doing a good job of training people to wait for price drop, once again.

It's not even that, I am willing to pay $50 for a game if I think it's worth it. I just don't think this particular game is worth $50, maybe $30. Speaking of price drops, I want to replace my copies of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl that were stolen but the retail price is STILL $50 for them (I hate that Nintendo is reluctant to ever drop the MSRP of their games).

I've seen a ton of Sonic racers for the Wii, GCN, DS, and PSP for cheap.  From what I've noticed they always get trashed by the critics.  Was there ever a solid one worth picking up?  As in, up there with Diddy Kong Racing.

I'm not sure when 2 became a "ton", there's been 2 Sonic racing games released last gen and this gen ("Sonic Riders" and "Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity") and neither were for DS or PSP. Sonic Riders' best reviews came for the GameCube version with a 63.02% average, its sequel had its best reviews on PS2 at 58.76%.

However, this is not really a Sonic game. Sega just branded it Sonic to help sell more copies. It's a general Sega racing game.

You can still find retailer specials where the games are $30 or less, especially for older titles. Amazon has deals on Nintendo-published titles all of the time, so keep watch.

My post was inquiring about Sonic racing games in general, and there are far more than two and they do exist on handhelds.

You were talking about last gen and this gen. I know there have been a few other Sonic racing games (Sonic R on Saturn/PC, Sonic Drift on Game Gear, Sonic Drift 2 on Game Gear).
