Multiplayer DS games...
« on: April 08, 2009, 08:23:38 PM »
How many of you really get a lot of use out of the DS's multi player features?

Growing up, I never really got to make much use of the GameBoy's multi-player, as finding someone with a GameBoy, the same game, having the equipment with me (and a link cable!) was always a chore - even more so since I lived in the boonies and the nearest living person was about 12 miles down the road.

But with the DS - man, I *love* multi-player on the DS.  I have actually bought games because they allow single-card download play - and I've skipped others that don't.  Hell, in one case, I bought two copies of the same game so I could play (it didn't support single-card, of course).

What brought this on is that I picked up the second Bomberman Land Touch! for the DS and received it in the mail today ($15.99 on Buy.com!).  I'm amazed at how much better the multi-player is than on the first one.  However, like the first one, the single-player mini-game mode... well, blows.  I'll likely never really mess with it.

Now, skip over to New Super Mario Bros.  It's a great game - but I've spent way more time playing multi-player than single player.  I would honestly go out at midnight and pay $35 for an all-out multi-player only Mario vs. Luigi game with more levels, stats, WiFi, etc.  Hell, I'd probably pay full price for just more levels.

Of course, there's Tetris, Mario Kart, Clubhouse Games, Uno and some others (what I am I forgetting here?) - what games do you think have significant value for multi-player action.  Preferably local (WiFi is nice, but it's so much more fun to be in the same room so you can hit your opponent when he steals your stars) and single-card is a plus.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Most of my DS games have multiplayer in some capacity. Off the top of my head, I have Contra 4, Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart DS, and Tetris. I'm looking for a good Bomberman game. I haven't really played one since the first Super Bomberman.

I haven't played Bomberman Land Touch 2 in multi-player yet, but from what I've tinkered with it by myself with my multiple DS systems, it's the one to get.  It's my understanding that Bomberman DS and Bomberman Land Touch both have the same multi-player component.

BLT2, however, has a much better multi-player system.  There are more levels, more items (including the virus/skull), more options *and* BDS/BLT1 has the stupid thing where either all players have to have the game or only one player can use the game, making all the other players download from the 1st guy.  BLT2 actually lets you use a mix of people with and without the game for a faster download.

I just remembered that I had Bomberman 64 which was simply awful except that you could pick up items/other players and throw them.

Word. Seems too obvious to have taken this 3 games to implement.

I'll give Bomberman Land Touch 2 a shot.

I simply love Phantom Hourglass' multiplayer. I can't play my DS online when I'm visiting my folks but at home I play it all the time. Speaking of which my FC for the game is in my sig so if anyone else wants to play some of it then just let me know.

I also have enjoyed Mario Kart and New Mario Brothers in multiplayer. Tetris DS is nice but it turns out I'm not very good at it online. Plus not a whole lot of people play it anymore. I prefer Meteos though that's not online sadly. Maybe they'll make one for DSiWare with online focus.

I played a bit in the Advance Wars: Days of Ruin online and liked that. I haven't tried to go online with Fire Emblem yet because I want to beat the story first.

I have GTA Chinatown Wars waiting at home and I understand that has a multiplayer mode as well.

I would love to find someone who would play Age of Empires DS with me as I love that game as well.

Ring's of Fate is alright but I haven't played the multiplayer at all and I don't terribly feel motivated to get the new Echoes one.

I also have Lock's Quest but have not tried that games multiplayer yet either.

My little sister has Mario Party DS and that is fun for a while. The minigames are fun and it seems to be executed fairly well. I might pick up a sequel. I really like that Mario Party has single card play.

There is that new Dokapon Kingdom DS game so I might get that instead. I think Dokapon Kingdom on Wii is far superior to any Mario Party I have played.

I've barely touched the multiplayer modes on any of my DS games.  I completed a half dozen races on Mario Kart when it first came out, played a few rounds of Phantom Hourglass multiplayer and ... I think that may be it.

I'm not big on multiplayer games to begin with.  And if I did want to play a DS game online I'd likely have to do so while sitting in my living room--at that point I'd rather just play with my Wii.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

The DS has some of the best multiplayer gaming ever.  Tetris DS, New SMB, and of course Mario Kart have all been excellent.  I even bought Contra 4 for a friend just so I could play it multiplayer.

Sadly, I don't get to make as much use of it as I'd like.  I'd say it's hard getting together to play with someone, but it's exactly as hard as getting together to play a home console.  Being an adult sucks sometimes.

QFT.

Half of my friends aren't all that interested in games like they used to be and the other half are too busy to play that often. Some of them actually give me a 'I finally grew out of that phase' speech and most of them are off getting married. I'm one of the only people in all my groups of friends that is still single. Most of my friends are already married or will be by the end of May. The married ones are even more busy. I need some more single friends I think.

Does anyone want to play some Wi-Fi games?

Also, no ones mentioned Pokemon yet. I play with my little sister. We've gotten some fun out of the Underground mode where you dig together and play capture the flag while setting traps.

I've played a lot of Mario Kart DS multiplayer, especially the battle mode. I play against a friend of mine in teams with bots. We also play a lot of Mario vs. Luigi and the Coin Runners mode in Mario Hoops which is kind of like Mario Kart battle mode without the karts.
