Shake Smash Option Question

I can not get this option to work.  Any tips or tricks? 

I went to the Controls submenu and had to create a new profile.  In that new profile I set the Shake Smash option to "on".  I then sent the profile to my remote, but when i play anything other than Subspace Emissary, I can not get it to work.

Did you change your name under your character to the profile you changed the controls with? It's annoying, but the names not only don't come up by default, but they revert back to "Player 1, Player 2", etc. everytime you back out of the menu, and the controller changes only take place when you've selected the name.
