A question about the Nintendo 64
« on: February 02, 2008, 06:23:07 PM »
I just got a N64 from a friend, but I can't get it to work. I have everything hooked up but all I get is snow. Also I have the 64 video cables hooked into a RF Modulator I have power for the 64 but no video.

I assume no sound as well?  Have you tuned the RF into your tv?  You will have to run the tuning function on the TV until it finds the signal from the 64.

It has sound. I have a coaxial cable running from the modulator to the tv. What the tuning function?

Maybe it's like the Saturn and has a spaz unless you tune it into a certain channel. Have fun finding which one it is!

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that it could be broken.

Sounds to me like a problem w/ your a/v cables. If you have another Nintendo system around, try using the cables from that system (except the Wii which has a different plug). If you don't have any hanging around, you could probably buy a pair of Gamecube a/v cables (red/white/yellow) to hook up to your RF modulator OR simply a Gamecube RF modulator for cheap at a local store that sells game accessories. You'd definitely find one at a place like GameStop. Plus, if the cables you buy don't work, you can always return them.

The tv and the RF modulator are both set to the same channel, correct?

The channel on both the rf modulator and tv are the same yes. I just got on here and I had some friends over so I'll check the cables  if thats the problem ok.

Well I just checked with my gc and it works but when I tried with the 64 I get this split second yellow screen and then snow. So frustrating. Also I will be watching the big game so I probably won't respond for a couple hours.

if the cable setup works fine for your gamecube, then there's no problem with the cable. It must be the N64 itself that's the problem.

That's probably why your friend gave it to you.
