The Wi-fi USB Connector... no longer exists?
« on: April 28, 2008, 04:36:38 PM »
It looks like they aren't making them any more. Wikipedia suggests that there's actually a lawsuit that prevents Buffalo from selling them. Great. So what's the most affordable means of getting a DS online, assuming that one doesn't currently own a wireless router?

check every gamestop and hunt down the USB adaptor like i did.

It was in good condition, still came with the small ext. cable but no disc. You don't need the disc since you'd have to go to nintendo.com and download the newest version of the software any way.

other than that.. uh.. go to mcdonalds

For the money spent on a Nintendo USB adapter, you might as well get a low-end, but perfectly functional, wireless router/switch.

My Wal*Mart has about 3 dozen of the things.  Unfortunately, they're still $35.

I've heard this before, but they all seem to be at least twice the cost of the USB dongle. What's the cheapest model that's known to be compatible?

Most of the products in the Linksys WRT54g line are Wii- and DS-compatible out of the box, and at the low end they can be as cheap as $25.  You can often get rebates on them, too.  A little googling of a specific product number should turn up any issues other people have had.

UPB pretty much answered it, first thing to do is switch channels.  You could even post your router here and we might be able to tell you what to do.

are you allowed to sell them though? I went to the Nintendo World Store a few weeks after Brawl came out thinking that HAD to be the place i can find one and a little birdy told me they have tons just sitting in their stock room but aren't allowed to sell them...

I have this super sleek Netgear.  Looks like Wii.  About $40 when I got it 2 years ago.  Worked with Wii as soon as they met.  Some tweaking necessary to improve your Brawnline, if improvement is possible.

See, I don't like the "buy a wi-fi router" option.  I wired my house years ago, and prefer to use a wired network.

There's no reason you can't still use wires for everything else, but how do you plan to get an ethernet jack in your DS?

Yup - no restrictions blocking us from selling them...  Come on over to the Carmi Wal*Mart for all your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector needs. :)

Ok so spread rumors that brawl and mario kart work best with the adaptor to hype up demand, then make yourself (ourselves) a killing
