Yeah, Sylux is definitely a vampire and can drain health from others regardless of which form they're in.

However, there are countermeasures to Sylux, I'm just not sure how well they work. Getting in his face in Kanden's alt form works VERY well, as the larve jump up in his face and wreck him.

But again, smart Sylux players will just run away in alt form, find health, and return to fight refreshed and, as of yet, I know of no way to stop them.

A brief guide to basic attack damage.

Also from the other thread:

I was right about there being a rock-paper-scissors scenario in this game.

From Nintendo's official strategy guide (stolen from Gamefaqs):

Samus
Ideal Teammate: Kanden
Most Vulnerable Prey: Sylux

Kanden
Ideal Teammates: Samus, Sylux
Most Vulnerable Prey: Weavel, Trace

Spire
Ideal Teammate: Noxus
Most Vulnerable Prey: Samus, Noxus

Weavel
Ideal Teammate: Noxus
Most Vulnerable Prey: Trace, Spire

Noxus
Ideal Teammates: Spire, Weavel
Most Vulnerable Prey: Samus, Kanden

Trace
Ideal Teammates: Spire, Samus
Most Vulnerable Prey: Weavel, Sylux

Sylux
Ideal Teammate: Kanden
Most Vulnerable Prey: Weavel

I think Kanden works very well against Sylux, however, as you can use the alt form to simply get in Sylux's face to avoid the lightning gun.

Overall, though, Sylux is probably the best character I've seen because, as soon as a Sylux player is below 125 health, they can alt form it and run like hell, having one of the fastest alt forms in the game, and go find health before returning to fight again. I've actually raced players to health powerups and beat them with Sylux because the alt form is just so damn fast.

Also, Sylux WTFPWNs Weavel. When Weavel drops the turret, Sylux's lightning drains health from the turret AND the player, and since the turret is stationary, Sylux can easily recover health off it and survive (as the longer you aim the lighting and are hitting the target, the faster it drains).

I still don't see a strategy to counter a chicken-Sylux player. MAYBE if Samus is faster in morph ball (she should be with the boost) and trying to drop mines in front of him, but that's a goddamn stretch.

Anyone have a strategy which beats a cautions Sylux player who knows to run early?

Trace would be a good candidate to counter a good Sylux player.  Heck, Trace counters pretty much any hunter in the game since it's ridiculously fast and it's alt form is overpowered.

It's starting to look like Trace and Sylux are going to be the top tier hunters.  Noxus can be considered top tier if the player knows how to use him effectively.

What bothers me about the multiplayer is the lack of an option to turn off specific power ups, mainly health power ups.  It's becoming more and more common to find people who camp at the health spots or run back to those spots when they are about to die.

Also, am I the only one having troubles with the wifi network in that when you are trying to face random opponents, you never get a 4-player and only 1vs1 or 2 other players?

Yeah, I typically get that on wifi as well.

But there definitely needed to be an option when it came to selecting which power-ups to offer because health does indeed make the game a completely different experience.

I don't think Trace's alt is overpowered at all. It's surprisingly easy to dodge if you're jumping and strafing at the same time. It's fast and lets you run for the health, yeah, but it's not as fast as the ultra-fast Sylux alt.

I actually have more trouble connecting four players in friends.  The fourth often runs into the 80430 error.  Sometimes they can back at out and login in again, but it's a lot of waiting.  At least once you've connected, your group can keep playing.

I've only been able to connect to a 4 play game once, with rivals in Friends and Rivals mode.  Other times I've gotten the error message.

Hopefully the Revolution and the next Gameboy/DS let Multiplayer games be patched upon feedback by users.  If Hunters were a PC game,  I would expect the developer to add an option to not use health power-ups, and to balance the characters if needed.

I think the characters are balanced, it's just a matter of experience.  The only one I haven't really learned to deal with is Sylux.  Somehow other people seem to get insane damage with him, and I can shock someone forever and feel like it's not doing me any good.

Just beat adventure mode.  Overall, as a game it's alright.  WHAT IS THE DEAL with there only being two bosses that you fight four times each?  As a Metroid game it really doesn't measure up because it's missing one of the biggest elements of the series - upgrades.  Not a single gameplay-changing upgrade in the whole game.  Just a bunch of guns which don't do anything but open doors and have stronger effects against specific enemies.

Final Boss and aftermath spoilers:The final boss can be beaten two ways, the second way to get the "real ending" is rather obscure.  Beating him the right way gets you a special gun and stage for multiplayer, but they're throw aways.  The gun is this massive cannon that vaporizes everything in a gigantic radius - usually resulting in self-destructs for the shooter.  The stage is just a spiraling structure with that gun at the top and no other weapons - resulting in everyone simply trying to get to the top to get the gun.

I really did like a lot of the game - especially the morph ball sections.  Alinos is easily my favorite planet of the bunch.  Still, there's no escaping that it feels like a Metroid spin-off than a genuine entry in the series.  And for that, I've had a blast online.

Will be very interesting to see Jonny's review.  He seems to enjoy multiplayer, but he isn't enjoying single-player much.

I think one of my biggest issues with it is that there's no save points to be found anywhere in the 4 areas AT ALL outside of your gunship.  Sure they have transporters back to the ship and all, but so far I've only come across like two in each area and there were times I would've liked to have been able to find a save spot and save real quick.

About the repeating bosses, this no doubt comes from only being a 64MB card.  If it was 128 like IGN had stated this wouldn't have been an issue.

My only answer is that sometimes, people need to face facts and admit that games are sometimes made more for the multiplayer than the single player.

Halo 2 didn't have an ending so that the multiplayer could be better. On the flipside, SSBM launched unfinished (balance issues between characters, some bad textures which don't connect, etc.) but worked hard to have a better single player mode even though it wouldn't be used for the game's primary purpose which was the multiplayer.

Would I have traded the single player so that Ganondorf could wield his sword, Bowser would be balanced to not suck, and god willing, Pitt could be in the game? In a heartbeat.

The single player delivers a pretty regular portable FPS experience, but the multiplayer delivers a level of depth and strategy that has never before been done in a FPS. For that, I'd give it credit as the excellent game that it is.

Im sad to hear about the singleplayer part, It seems Im going to really skip this game after all, The only thing I can do is hope for a real Metroid game for the DS in the future. But if hunters is a total success in sales will that ever happen? I really dont want the game to fail as much as I dont like it, but I dont want the real Metroid gameplay to be dismissed in the future... besides Nintendo has this ability to let me down recently, but I will remain optimistic, is all I can do for now :P.

So, which of the 6 new hunters should appear in SSB:Rev?

I vote Spire:
-He's a heavyweight
-He's not evil, by his backstory. In fact, his story is the most similar to Samus', except he's the last of his race trying to solve the mystery of his lost people
-He adds the intimidation factor which SSB needs more of (fewer small, cute things. More large, angry things)

I got the damn game! well, its borrowed, so I want to finish it all for those awesome cutscenes and thats all, what is needed to unlock them all? is it 100% items, scans or both? and I have scanned some things like "portal" and "door" but they don't appear in my logbook, why?
