My Wii sounds like R2-D2. Normal or not?
« on: November 08, 2007, 09:05:44 AM »
Whenever it reads from disk, i hear loud mechanical "clicking" sounds, and some softer "beeping" noises to boot.

Although the Wii works fine, the sound is really annoying.

It's been happening so long I can't remember if it's always been like this or not.

Is this the norm, or should I get it serviced? TIA..

Kairon's Wii is overweight from digesting too many VC titles.

Just to clarify I'm talking about reading from a game disc, not from the internal flash memory.

Hey, I've only got 50 blocks left, I'm about where you are, Kairon.

King of Snake, how loud do you consider the noises?  Mine makes noises too, but my PS2 and Dreamcast are by far louder, for example.

Mine has made noise since the day I bought it (launch day). It's probably nothing.

The low pitched "beeps" are normal. I just sent my Wii in for servicing yesterday due to a loud "buzzing" noise the drive would make any time a disc was spinning.

That clicking noise still worries me, it doesn't seem healthy to have it constantly clicking and whirring when you return to the Wii menu.

Unless you can see some visible marks on a game disc you have in the Wii after hearing the clicking I wouldn't worry too much about it GP

I know that, I'm just saying that sound always bothers me even if it is unwarranted and "normal".

When the surround sound's pumped up you don't hear it during action.

On second thought, it's not really clicking, its just generic seeking/loading sounds. I don't know how else to describe it.

I would classify it as extremely loud. It's much louder than my slim PS2.

GP: The clicking/whirring when switching channels freaks me out too...

oh.. im actually sending my Wii back to nintendo for this very reason.. (im such a wuss)

does anyone else have video problems associated with this? i notice severe pixellation when im playing practically any title (the brown parts of RE4, most of MP3, some GameCube games)

i just wonder if these two go hand-in-hand
I'll shut up now...

No, even though mine clicks a lot I've never noticed any graphics issues.
