Linking Gamecube to Gamecube
« on: March 27, 2003, 10:15:12 AM »
Does anyone know of anyway to link a GameCube to a GameCube?

I see info on GameCube to GameBoy Advanced with a link cable but not to another GameCube.

There is nothing about linking Gamecueb to Gamecube.

Yet.

Wait till E3.
Yes, it's stupid and totally cliched, but Miyamoto-san's has only answered questions about LAN gaming on Gamecube with a smile.
So wait.

Yes, you can.  You need two Broadband adapters, a "crossover" network cable (or two regular network cables and a "hub"), and a game that supports the feature.  As of right now, there are no games that support linking GameCubes.

So this would not work on all two player games only a certain select?  Any ideas when the first game might come out?

Some company commented on how easy it would be to link Gamecubes through ethernet. I'll see if I can find it in my magazine pile.

is it true that nintendo sold gamespy online lisencing (or whatever you'd call it.) and is it also true that if nintendo was to release a game LAN-only, gamespy could support it so that it is online? a cake to whoever answers these queries (<<< that means inqueries, or questions. i don't want to be flamed for encouraging a "smart person only" competition) of mine

cyrus420 - Nintendo hasn't sold GameSpy online licensing. GameSpy have just developed some GameCube online tools, and they plan on licensing them to developers, so that the developers can use the tools to make future GameCube titles support online play through GameSpy. GameSpy might produce a utility in the future which would allow LAN-only GameCube titles to be played across the internet.

It's safe to say that LAN gaming on GameCube equals online play.  Hell, you could probably set up your own online network with VPN (Virtual Private Networking) in Windows XP (not sure about Linux...  not experienced enough in that area).  I am right positive you could connect two GameCubes through VPN, but I have no way of testing at all.
