This is interesting.  He stated 1-2 more third party characters, but then interviews afterwards had several key Nintendo representives saying they were not contacted by Sega to include Sonic in Brawl...and the third parties must contact them was kinda implied.

So does that mean Sakurai wasn't including Sonic in that list?  I would assume so.  Specially, since he also made it sound in the update that Sonic was kinda a recent addition to the series and he is working hard to balance him into the game.  

I believe we will see 1 or 2 more 3rd party characters still.  One better be Mega Man, because I want some super Mega Man action, and it would be nice to have another range dominant character besides Samus.  

Also, I still believe Bomberman can make a great Brawl combatant.

With Capcom moving a major PS3 game to the Wii and Square supporting Wii Ware by releasing an ONLINE CC game, I expect two more characters from said characters. Megaman's a shoe-in. As for Square its a tie between Geno and a FF character.

Ninty isn't going around begging for characters to be put in the game, it'd be the 3rd parties, so I'm fairly certain there won't be any "copping out"... =)

I agree with Bill, Kojima begged for Snake to be in melee.  I am sure Nintendo had more then enough offers.  I would love to see Geno again.
