Well, since, after this news, we could see a major change in the way Nintendo Power is handled, I decided to take a small risk and subscribe for another five years in advance.
Using ye ol' $20 for five year method, I took the plunge.
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=18&threadid=16950&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=Current coupon code CPNCABIN15 gives you 15% off. I couldn't find an awesome 18% off code like vudu (I did find a 19% off code, but it expired back in June...), but still... I figure it's worth the small risk in hopes of getting a good deal later.
For the most part, as Nintendo Power was just an arm of Nintendo, it could afford to lose money - since it was an advertising tool for Nintendo. Now that it's going to be (mostly) independent, I can see them improving the magazine - they can't afford to let it just lose money if they don't have game sales to bail them out. Just a theory.
Besides, now I get to brag to all the ladies about how my Nintendo Power subscription lasts until Aug 2017.
