Virtual Console Review
« on: June 04, 2007, 10:55:08 AM »
At least every other week i will try to write a review for a Virtual Console game. I will try to do more but i can not promise anything. I hope this will help many of you learn about which VC games to buy if NWR review does not already help. So in the next two days i will be posting a review for Mario Kart 64.
Future posts will be about more recent ones.
Each review will consist of 3 parts. Gameplay. Control with new controller. And just overall pro's and con's. Then I will submit a final rating.

If you would like to also rate a VC game that i have not send me a PM with ur review and i will post it with ur name on it as credibility.

I will be posting a list of reviews which are still needed.
Reviews a personally call for myself are: Kid Icarus
                                                               Kirby's Adventure
                                                               Mario Kart 64
Legend of Zelda A Link To The Past
                                                               Contra 3, The Alien Wars.
More will be coming so in the time present. Write reviews all you want

A MARIO KART 64 REVIEW

A Game Reborn.

You all remember the original 64 version of Mario Kart with its exciting 3-D courses and numerous (8) characters. The game is just likethe original and is not that much fun if you are alone. If you have a group of 3-4 people in Battle mode the game can be pretty exciting and so can regular racing. there are around 20 courses which can get boring after a simple 2 hours of play. While in racing mode you will want to beat the others while using special items to help speed yourself up or damage others. While in battle you use the items to help destroy the others so you are the last one standing.
With the gamecube controller controls are pretty basic. Moving your hand between acceleration and item moves fluently. And Steering works fine with the control stick.
Now for the pro's and con's

                       PRO's
Track Design is put together nicely
When playing with 2-3 people in battle or racing the game can be a pleasure
Sound is selected appropriately for each course.

                      CONS's
When playing with  3-4 people you can find that the game lags slightly.
With only 8 characters it limits your decisions.

Overall Scoring.

            Gameplay:                                                7/10
            Sound:                                                      7/10
            Lastibility:                                              6.5/10
            Graphics for that system:                         9/10
            Control On Gamecube Controller:           9.5/10

            Final Score:                                               8/10

Recommended For Fans:                 If you want to spend $10 on something go for this game.

THIS REVIEW WAS NOT MADE BY ME BUT WAS MADE BY KARL, AKA INSULINATOR not to be confused with mr. castenada

A SIM CITY REVIEW

Arguable the best in this renounced game series.

We've all played, or at least heard of, the Sim City series. Well, this is the one that started the hype. The original game was great, and the controls aren't that bad on the gamecube controller. As a game in general, it can be pretty slow moving, as you only collect money once a year (game time, mind you), but if you have the patience to stick it out, this can be a really fun game to have. Now lets hear the pros and cons.

PRO's
Fun game in general.
wide variety of options to keep replay-value high.

CONS's
Can be rather slow at times.
Controls can be awkward at times, and the gamecube controller's buttons layout can be difficult to learn.

Overall Score:

Gameplay: 7/10
Sound: 8/10
Lastibility: 8/10
Graphics for that system: 9/10
Control On Gamecube Controller: 6/10

Final Score: 8/10

Recommended For Fans: Good game, especially if your a fan of the series.

My review of every virtual console game:

DRM-infested crap that you should not buy under any circumstances. If you want to purchase old Nintendo games, scour a local yard sale, or ebay.

Final score: 2/10
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

A world In need of a hero

Actraisor

In a land where demons control the people and villages were no more, one hero rose to fight them off and his name was " Inset Name Here" You become the hero in this Action, Adventure game. Your job is to fight off demons while protecting and directing the townsfolk. While not guiding civilization you participate in a sidescrolling, sword battling adventure. When these two game elements come together it creates a exciting game. This game really shows how good SNES games were. When you first start the game you are assigned the task of clearing a land of monsters, this starts a sidescrolling battle. After the battle you begin directing the town, while telling the townsfolk where to build you have to shoot down demons with arrows. After you seal all the demons away you must do another sidescrolling battle. Once this battle is completed you complete your first area of the world. You continue this in 5 more areas before moving onto the boss battle. Once the boss battle has started you must kill 6 of the bosses you fought in the previous levels, then move right on to destroy the final boss. The sound in this game is equally as good. There are many different tunes for each sidescrolling level. Music for town actions fits each action appropriately. Control in this game is also nice. You must use the Gamecube controller or the Classic controller to play the game however you can not use the Wii remote. You use the Control Stick to move and other buttons to attack, confirm commands and bring up menus. The game will take you about 5-7 hours to complete, but you could easily replay through the game 2 or 3 more times without getting bored. If you do sit it down for about 5-6 months and then you will want to play it again.

Pros:
+ Mixes two different genres of games together
+ A game that has great Lastibility

Cons:
- Could have had a larger world (More the 6 levels)

Final Score: 9.5/10

Cons should have included "sim levels very shallow" and "meteor shower vs. bosses is cheap".

lol that is pretty cheap. But it does not help in the end. Or else you will run out of them before the final boss

lawl, because if only Nintendo would take off the DRM enslaving all those VC games, we could all play them on any console we want! PS3, XBox 360, PSP, DS...you name it! The only thing that's stopping the true classics of gaming from spreading their joy to every gaming system and starting a new Golden Age of classic 2D gameplay is Nintendo's evil monopolistic money-grubbing executives!

I think this ranks up with the David Perry comment as 'stupidest thing I've seen on the Internet recently'.

I think you mean renowned, but this isn't about spelling and grammar. There is absolutely no way any Sim City fan would say the original is the best. That honor goes to either 2000 or 4, depending on which way you want to go with judging it. SC2k is easiest to get into and most immediately fun, but 4 has incredible, unbelievable depth, and if you can get a big city up and running well it's quite an accomplishment. I bought SimCity on the VC hoping it would be great (back when the selection wasn't near as good as it currently is) and I couldn't get into it because I'm so used to the newer games. If you are new to the series this would probably be a fine place to start, but 2K would be even better, and could most likely be found in discount software sections of stores for about the same price, and would run on any PC made in the past 10 years.
