Who's publishing? Namco-Bandai!

But who cares! The people who developed Outpost Kaloki X for the XBox Live Download service are hitting up the Wii with a wacky, space station tycoon management/sim/game/VOODOO CHICKEN experience come SUMMER 2007!!! ZOMG! STEALTH GAME ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AND CO-OP!

Below, I provide a select few quotes from IGN's 3-PAGE Interview:

Quote

...

We have always been drawn to the creative spirit of Nintendo. They have been willing to try something new and different and support the kind of games we want to make. Everyone at Namco Bandai Games has been a lot fun to work with on this wacky project with monkeys and pirates in space. I can't think of a better fit for this game other than the Wii. I know a lot of people give an answer like this, but they're all speaking the truth - working on this system rocks.

...

Space Station Tycoon is not a port of Outpost Kaloki X in any way. It is a full-featured Wii title developed for Namco Bandai Games, so none of the content is from Outpost Kaloki X. I know that sounds like a disclaimer, but we really want to make that as clear as possible.

I mean, we could talk about changes forever. We have space station customization, a huge cast of over 30 characters, an evolving story that should deliver a lot of laughs, co-op, etc. etc. Like we mentioned earlier, once we found out that our title was going to be developed on the Wii, we just had a huge number of design, gameplay and presentation elements become possible for us.

...

The cooperative mode is available at any time during the single player experience. All it takes is for your friend to pick up a second remote and join you in building your station. We're still hammering out some of the specifics, balancing and such, but we're pretty excited to see how players will work together doing a game like this.

...

I was excited before I ever laid my hands on the hardware and when I got my first chance to play, I discovered it was even better than I had imagined. The Wii provides the opportunity to create a very unique gaming experience. This is exactly the kind of challenge and opportunity that we live for. When we were asked to make Space Station Tycoon for the Wii, the whole team had a moment.

...

We wanted to make the game extremely accessible, even to the non-gamer, and part of this goal led to us making the entire game playable with only the remote. Since we figured that everyone has at least one nunchuck though, we added some optional control to the nunchuck for players who want it.

...

The title will be available this summer 2007.

...

It's simply unlike any other game out there.

Has any God/Sim game featured 2 player co-op before?

I think the original Outpost Kaloki (not the Xbox port, the PC game) was released as Space Station Tycoon here. Dunno, the one-hour demo didn't really convince me about the game.

a game about space... interesting

it has monkeys and pirates... where do sign in blood???

lol, seriously though I am excited about this game, I like the fact that they vive the option of playing with the remote alone or with the nunchuck. of course I will be using only the remote, but its stops people from complaining.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

I just realized that co-op play allows either two players to play with a wiimote each or... ONE PERSON TO PLAY WITH A WIIMOTE IN EACH HAND!

I just read a preview of this in Nintendo Power, looks pretty cool.  Good sense of humour, anyway.  I'm starting to get the feeling that this could be Wii's first "sleeper", tho that's kind of hard to guage with this console...the case could be made for Elebits, Cooking Mama, Kororinpa and maybe one or two others, too.

One of the scenarios in the game involves proving to one of your customers that relaxation is as valuable as hard labour, and if you fail he blows up parts of your space stations.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Intro movie.

Good sense of humor! A little low production in terms of lip-syncing animation, but that's no problem if the game is fun!

Oh man.  I don't like seeing games on a Nintendo console getting cancelled.  Too "Gamecube's last two years" for me.  The Wii remains a hot seller but cancellations suck and are just, well, scary.  I'm not confident enough in the Wii yet to shrug off the loss of any games.

The day you're confident in the Wii, Ian Sane, is the day Nintendo will have staged a hostile takeover of the world.

You're making this way too easy for Ian.

Ian wants the Wii to grow its own race of people after someone touches it and static electricity energizes some Coke that got spilled on it.  Then those people will rise up, their civilization evolving faster than humanity could ever understand.  Why, after a heart breakfast of waffles, they would have already reached the Renaissance, complete with Lutherans nailing a list of grievances to the church.

Then they will take to the skies with their space ships, fly to Mars, and colonize it decades before we could ever hope to do so.  And then, in their greatest moment of triumph, they will make their own Wii systems, miniature but complete, and play Wii Tennis in a low-gravity scenario as they live peacefully upon the red planet.

So that when the headline ultimately comes that the Wii has colonized Mars, Ian will finally be able to rest upon his laurels that the system has succeeded in at least something.
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

I can't see a game this far into development being outright canned.  Marketing has already started for it and everything.  I could see it being delayed but not canned.  Unless for technical reasons.  If the Wii at this point can't handle what they want to do then well theirs really nothing you can do and hope that Wii2 will keep backward compatibility the same way as the Wii.

It probably won't be cancelled. Worst case scenario, it gets delayed until they figure out how to finish it.  I hope they take the time to make it a good game instead of shovelling it out the door as a POS.

Urgh, they repeat the rumor in IGN's podcast, and they say their source contacted them after they posted the story, lambasting them for posting a true story as a rumor...

Maybe... well... maybe they're gonna make it a wiiware game?
