Midway Plans Exclusive Wii Titles

Two unannounced games join Mortal Kombat in the company's 2007 Wii plans.

During Midway's Q1 2007 financial report conference call, Midway CEO David Zucker said that his company has plans for two exclusive Wii titles, to be announced and released later this year.

When asked about the Wii in the Q&A portion of the call, Zucker said, "[The Wii] is off to a great start, and we're all excited about it.  We have Mortal Kombat Armageddon for the Wii coming out this month, and then we've got two titles that we have yet to announce for later this year which will be Wii exclusive."  Zucker pointed out that Midway had four launch window titles available for the platform, and unlike other publishers, Midway didn't need to make many adjustments to the Wii's surprising success.  "We've been a big believer in the Wii and will continue to be a big believer in the Wii," he said.

Midway financial results for the quarter included $11.1 million in net sales, down $4.3 million from the same period last year.  The drop in revenue helped contribute to a net loss of $19.8 million, though that's less than the $22.6 million hole Midway was in during its Q1 2006.

Call me cynical, but considering their offerings so far, I don't have great hopes.

That makes two of us, Midway hasn't impressed me much lately. I've been playing Lord of the Rings Online and it is a wonderful MMORPG, but that is like the only game I've cared about that Midway has published or developed.

In addition to those exlcusives, Midway has a 3rd game they plan to unveil and release this year that will not be Wii-exclusive (and it's not MK:A).

Midway killed off all the staff that were behind the original Rush/Hydro Thunder/Off-Road arcade games years and yeeeaaaars ago. The last game they did was Rush 2049. So there's NEVER going to be another awesome Rush game.
