Guitar Hero 3 Wii to Feature Online Play
« on: April 16, 2007, 11:38:21 AM »
It's officially official.  Also, a DS version?!?
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=13328

 Red Octane, the company responsible for bringing the Guitar Hero franchise to the light of day (bless them) has officially announced that Guitar Hero 3 will indeed be coming to the Wii, by the end of the year.  The PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 will also be getting the multiplatform game.

Speaking with GameSpot, Red Octane President Kai Huang said that online play would be a big part of the game, including competitive and co-op game modes, more music and downloadable content.  Activision's Neversoft studio is developing the game, after the series' original developer, Harmonix, moved on to develop Rock Band on the 360 and PS3 for EA and MTV.

Huang also said that his company is "looking at a DS version" for early 2008.  This is especially curious, since there definitely won't be a guitar controller in play on the handheld.  Obviously, the touch screen could emulate the frets, but how would you hold the thing?  We'll need to see how that's going to work.

Keep it tuned to NWR for the latest on these rockin' developments.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

As long as it isn't as expensived as the second game ($90 for the Xbox 360 version, Activision can shove the game up their ass for that price), I will get this. I might reconsider if the rumors of Rock Band being on the Wii end up being true.

DLC absolutely sucks for Guitar Hero 2 on XBox 360 - mainly because the songs come in preset 3-packs, and they cost too much. If you could choose one song at a time, and pay maybe $1 per song, then it would be ok. Gamestop has the instruments available for preorder for Rock Band - $79 each IIRC.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA

I'm pretty sure they weren't that popular.

Er, I wonder if I can get an adaptor of some sort for my PS2 GH controller.

PS2 to USB adaptor should do the trick (don't quote me on that, I don't have the Xbox version - yet)

I really think they need to do things differently from the 360 version for the downloadable songs. Maybe something like this...

You can download the songs as a single track OR in a Set a la the previous games.
Singles could sell for 100 points. This is roughly comparable to the iTunes Music Store price. This might be scaled up to 150 points, but 200 or more and I wouldn't use it.
Sets of 5 songs could sell for 400-500 points (possibly a small discount for getting it as a set). Assuming the sets are five songs, I'd be willing to go up to 600-750 points, but would really hope that they aren't THAT lame at pricing these.

Bulk purchases of singles might also allow for dicounted prices. Perhaps if you buy 5-9 songs you get 5% off, 10-14 or 10-19 for 10% off, and 15 or 20+ for 15% off. Keep in mind these are fairly small discounts ($0.05 - $0.15 per track), and could only apply for buying single tracks, not for buying them in a set.

500 points for 3 songs would be pushing me, just as 200 points for one would. I might get packs at 500/3, but I'd need to really like the songs in those packs.

I hope all downloadable content on the wii will be bought with Wii points.  I don't want to charge my card every time when i download something.

I concur. NWR owes us $5 for LYING about that horrible, worthless game.

Keep in mind that you are not just paying for music, but interactive content for a game. So on top of royalties there is the cost of development. Aside from that you're pulling numbers out of the air, which is the same thing as they appear to be doing.

I guess either there will be a happy middle ground between the provider and the customer, or a lack of sales of downloadable content. /shrug
