Buying but not playing
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:08:01 PM »
Not sure if I'm the only one or not but I own TON of games with well over 3/4ths of them not completed,, along with some I haven't even touched (Metroid Prime 2, Baten Kaitos, Four Swords etc). Don't know what it is but I am a game buying addict, even though I don't get around to playing so many or beating them.

I do the exact same thing.
I want to play most of them, but I just never get around to it.

I play every game I buy.  PC games I almost always finish, but I get fed up with or tired of plenty of console and handheld games before finishing them.

I barely buy games, but when I do, the opposite happens (play the console ones to death, the PC ones gather dust...)

I rarely ever finish games but unless something really sucks I play it for a while after buying at least.

Not even Super Paper Mario? ::Gasp::

Anyway it seems the games I actually finish are all made by Nintendo, with a few 3rd parties here and there. I mean I have beaten every Zelda, and Mario game that has come out (well besides Zelda 2 which I quit after it got too tedious). Heck with the Mario games, I usually beat them within a week (I think I beat Mario Sunshine and Mario 64 in less than 3 days). Really platformers in general I seem to be able to complete, with another favorite of mine being Jak and Daxter.

I seldom beat my PC games, so that is why I get more sand box or RTS games where I can go right into the game and fiddle around for awhile. One of my favorite PC games, I can't even play much because Sattelite internet has way too much lag to play online games (That game being Battlefield 2). I'll get FPS games but I haven't beaten many, because my attention is usually focused elsewhere on the computer, or I'm playing one of my consoles. It is kind of funny though, even if I may not have touched a game for years, I still don't feel like selling it because I keep on thinking "Hey I may want to play that again"!

Unless the game is made out of pure smoking dick, I will play it all the way through. I also never sell my games, I always end up going back to play them again. But I will usually not buy another game until I finish the one I have. But sometimes that can't be done as I sometimes get my games in bulk, so in that case I will chosse one game and leave the rest in plastic wrap.

Same.  Though for me it gets to a point where I'm either tired of the gameplay (Windwaker(in specific the Ocean)), no longer feel compelled by the story/already know what will happen (Twilight Princess), or get distracted by life or something else and come back but it's been so long that my mad skillz I acrued to beat the game are gone (Link to the Past).

Also, GoldenPheonix will you be my friend and can I borrow some of your games?

I'm in the same boat as Gintoki, err, Perm. Nothing worth paying 60€ (or 50€ for the "cheap" games like Kororinpa) for on the Wii.

I have a games backlog for the first time in my life!

But I do intend to play every game I buy. Sometimes, I don't get very far (Tomb Raider, Big Brain Academy), sometimes, I quit in the middle (Robotech, Cubivore, Sphinx... and yes, even maybe Excite Truck (though I gave it to my little bro who loved it)) but other times I actually surprise myself (I blasted through Gun, for example, and Theme Park and Age of Empires DS are DANGEROUS addictions).

Screw Paper Mario for GC. I still want to track down or download Paper Mario on the 64... That game was pure beauty... *sniff* I played it all the time at the hospital...

Funny thing is that I prefer Paper Mario for GC to the N64 one (though they both are amazing games).

You know I didn't touch the Paper Mario series first came out because I was so disappointed that it didn't introduce new characters to the realm.  Like I love to play as a ShyGuy adventurer etc.  Then I eventually played Mario and Luigi Superstars and Partner in times now.  I think I'll try to pick up Paper Mario when I can.  Especially the new one.

What on earth are you talking about Ceric, Paper Mario introduces a lot of new characters, and it could just be the best series of games ever made.

Yeah Ceric! In Paper Mario you have allies who are goombas, koopas, boos, bomb-ombs. Nearly everything except shyguys.

I can relate in terms of games sitting on the shelf at my house for awhile, although generally that doesn't last too long. The worst example of this was the Path of Radiance, which took six months after buying it until I actually sat down and played it (loved it too).

The only game I have never played, but purchased, was Beach Spikers. It was an imbulse buy at Best Buy, where I got it for $10. Never got the urge to actually play it though, so when my sister got her Gamecube about a year later I gave it to her as a gift.

I am always buying games and I rarely have enough time to play them all. As of this moment I own 478 games spanning across 19 systems. Out of those games I'd say I haven't beat a third of them. Most of the games in that third I played once when I got it, put it back on the shelf and told myself I'd go back to it when I had some time. In the meantime the list of games just keeps growing and the amount of time I have keeps shrinking. One day I'll play them all; for now I'm happy collecting the games and having the ability to grab out pretty much any good game that has come out on any of the systems I own, and enjoy it with friends.

I'm not buying as many games as in years previous because of this.  I buy and never get around to playing them.

I bought F.E.A.R. a week ago, but haven't installed it yet. I'll get to it eventually, but right now I've got too much going on.

Don't worry, it's not worth installing anyway.
