Blazing Angels, anyone?
« on: March 20, 2007, 05:07:09 PM »
I've been waiting for Blazing Angels to come out for Wii since it was announced (I think as a launch title) quite a number of months ago.  My brother had it for the 360, and I really enjoyed it (especially the bombing missions, and multiplayer).  We have heard nothing about the game, except that it was supposed to come out today...I'm just curious to know, if you've played it, what are your thoughts?  And does it have any online functionality?  I know a couple of sites that have the "WiFi Connection" logo as part of the boxart, while others do not.  I have read a couple of places where they've said Ubisoft confirmed that there would be no online play, but they haven't removed the logo from the boxart on their website (the US site, anyway).  I know Pokemon is supposed to be the first online-enabled game...but as stated in the previous mailbag, online leaderboards could at least be a possibility...?  I know I am probably just being overly optimistic, but since we don't really know anything about the Wii version of the game, it could mean something.

Mainly, I am just concerned about how it controls and how the multiplayer is...thoughts?

This is supposed to be a port of an XBox 360 game already, and I've heard some mediocre things about the original, so I'm not holding out much hope personally.

I'm curious how this looks if it is a down-port from the 360 vs. and up-port from the PS2 or Gamecube.

both the 360 and PS3 versions got "meh" reviews. I'm not holding my breath for this one. A little while ago there was a rumor that Blazing Angels would be the first North American Wii online title.  That alone would make me at least rent it just to see how the online thing works.  I think i'm going to hold out for Heatseeker.

I wouldn't be excited about it either from reading the reviews of the other two versions...but having played it I am excited to at least find out how the controls are.  Since I started coming to the internet to find out about games before buying them back in the N64 days, I have let the review score determine which games I buy...because honestly, if I'm paying money (especially $50) for something, I want it to be perfect, period.  And unfortunately, when I read just one negative thing about a game in a review, I tend to move on.  This, however (on the 360), is one of those games that is neither great or terrible, but falls under the "fun nonetheless" category, for me anyway.  Hopefully it will be the same for Wii.

Did you guys see the newly released Blazing Angels Wii Trailer? Forget everything I said before, split-screen co-op overrides all my previous doubts.

Nice trailer...the control setup looks interesting, holding the Wiimote in your right hand (though I suppose that makes sense for right-handed people manuevering with the Nunchuk).  I notice they didn't have the WiFi logo in that trailer...but it's still on the boxart in some other ads I've seen for it.  Way for them to give me false hope.

Edit:  IGN has their review up on the game, and the game supports no form of online (even leaderboards), and their impressions of the control of the game were disappointing.  I might have to give this one a rental (something I haven't done since the N64 days), but it looks like I'll be waiting for the sequel (or just get Heatseeker, although the Impact Cam seems kind of gimmicky to me, as from the videos I've seen all the explosions look just about the same).
