My dad is interested in getting a racing game and steering-wheel controller thingy and I wanted to know what the best games with playable real cars and good steering wheel swere. So no, "wait for Mario Kart or F-Zero's." (I want those too, but this is for my dad, who doesn't want a game that is like not possible or "goofy."

Your best bet is to wait for Burnout 2, or get Burnout 1. Or possibly Street Racing Syndicate later on. there just arent any racing games ala GT3 on the Cube

Wave Race: Blue Storm! Its the best racer out there, never gets old, has incredibly realistic water effects and is just a damn fun game. But once Fzero and Mario Kart GCN come out, Wave Race's crown will be taken...

Namco are making their next Ridge Racer game a realistic, but semi-arcade game featuring real cars. They wanted to make in the mould of Gran Turismo. And with Burnout 2, World Racing, and Street Racing Syndicate coming, at least we'll have much better realistic racers than the N64.

But I prefer the Mario Karts and F-Zero's anyway. Well, only Mario Kart and F-Zero.

Need for Hot Pursuit 2 is good for a rental. I don't recommend buying it, though.

There are quite a few goodies coming, like V-Rally 3.
I post on many forums, including: PNF, N-Philes forums, MFO, TMC and others.

Oh I forgot to mention this before, but my dad would like a game with Formula One racing cars.

I still think Wave Race is the best "Racer" out there right now but if you want a racing game that looks sweet and it fast paced (and use racing wheel im pretty sure) then get Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 if you don't mind the occasional slowdown in framerate. This game is fairly deep; unlockable levels, cars, modes, objectives etc. so therefore it is the best i've seen in the GT3 type racing game for cube but the slowdown can be annoying.

Burnout 2 is the street racer I'm waiting for. This takes the good old arcade racing genre and makes it good again. And the GCN and Xbox versions will be much better than the original PS2 version, just like Burnout 1 (Criterion does good "ports", thankfully).

If you want something more realistic, you could go for Street Racing Sydicate which is more of a simulation. But that's not out yet.

And of course there is Lambourghini and Mercedes-Benz World Racing coming later..

I was at my arcade recently, and there is this racer by Konami called 'Thrill Ride 2'. Like Burnout, it seems to pride itself by having pretty cool crashes when you race. Although not nearly as cool as Burnout's crashes and the accompanying slow-mo, TR2 was pretty fun to play. The way you're driving is like you've got an instructor sitting next to you. She says where to go, and like an instructor, tells you to 'please pull into traffic in a safe mamer'. Of course, you don't, since you're racing against 3 other cars, and when you crash, there is a resulting ear-splitting scream, and you're back on the road.

I don't know what inspired what, but both games are excellent for that speed rush and the crash physics.

Another racer that got my attention was Hydro Thunder. The boats have that satisfying broooooom! to them, the boosts are pretty cool, as is the jumping systems (yank the accelerator lever back into reverse, the press the boost button). A fast game, that is pretty cool to play.
