Katamary Damacy on the Wii?
« on: December 17, 2006, 05:15:27 PM »
Go Nintendo posted a newstory about a rumor of 3 new Katamary games coming in 2007, one for the PS3, one for XBOX Live and the other for the Wii.

Keep in mind that this is still a rumor, but considering that Namco has pledged 30 titles for the Wii in 2007, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was a Katamary game.

Here's the link

What I find surprising is that a while back the creator dismissed the Wii as being a gimmick and looked as if the series would be Sony only for a while. Also, 3 Katamary games? As much as I enjoyed the first game, and had some moderate fun with the second, how in the HELL will they keep the games fresh?

Also, with the news of the PoP game being a wiimake, I wouldn't be surprised if the game turns out to be the first game with new motion based controls.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

They've already milked Katamari to death. While it may fit well on the Wii (more intuitive controls as not everyone has driven a tank and casual gamer appeal) I don't think it needs more games in the series. Maybe a rerelease of Damacy + We <3.

I totally agree here. The most I would like to see is maybe 1 disc with both KD games from the PS2 for the Wii. Me and My Katamari apparantly sucked, and that was all Namco, without the creator of the game. So, I doubt it would be a great idea to make anymore KD games without having the creator on board, which isn't going to happen because he is currently making playgrounds.

I doubt any of these 'new' games will have any input from the original creator considering he was against the sequel in the first place.  Any games coming out in the future will have Namco in charge, which might not be the best thing in the world.

And I think you're right, it will probably end up being a port with the wiimote controls slapped onto it.

There was also one supposedly coming out on the DS, along with a Baten Kaitos, mentioned in Nintendo Power and other sources, but both of those never came to be.

Guess the closest you'll get to a Wii Katamari is to play the Katamari-based Pac-Man World Rally (GCN) track over and over again.

I'd like to see it. I think it would be time to refresh it though and maybe look beyond the same characters. Take the premise and reinvigorate it totally (and increase the colour saturation, please, the originals have very fun graphics but dull colours). The original is a lot of fun (haven't played the other two) and I do think motion controls would be great (ala Excitetruck not Monkey Ball). Though, one does have to ask, with that amount of change why not just invent a new IP and gameplay variation?

I'm sorry but I don't know what was so good about this game..

granted, I never played it

but the graphics looked like crap, the story was stupid, and the gameplay looked dumb too.

Neadless to say I am not looking forward to this game at all.

It is impossible to know if a game is good or not if you have never played it. I'm not saying you will necessarily like it, but to not understand what was so good about the game, you really need to have played it. I didn't think the game looked like anything special either until I played it. It isn't about the story or the graphics. The combo of the music and the addictive gameplay is what made this a winner.

BUMP!

Go Nintendo just acknowledged that they did take down the news story, but they brought it back up with a scan of the rumors in the latest issue of EGM.

Here's the scan.

As long as the games don't take a step backwards from KD1 and 2, then I'll be fine with the game.  Bring it on!
