North America Wii Restock?
« on: December 17, 2006, 09:28:28 AM »
Hello.

December 17 came and passed, and I was unable to find a Wii. Given that Christmas falls on a strange date this year (the 25th is a Monday?), is it likely that any of the big-box stores (e.g. Best Buy) will be getting another restock before the end of the year? I know that Best Buy is supposed to be open next Sunday, but I wanted to see if I could get any more information before committing to waiting outside the store at 3:00 in the morning.

Thanks!
UERD

I got mine today, from Toys R Us! But I think they(most stores) should get more in b4/by next Sunday. GameStop will suggest that you call daily, and Best Buy mght be hording systems for one last major shopping day b4 Chistmas. But eiher way good luck.

I don't understand the "re-release", i've never seen that before with any other consoles.  They would just put them out and if you were lucky to be in the right place at the right time......you could pick one up.  Does this constant "re-release" method cause more hype or is it truely a "fare" way to allow everyone a chance to get a system?

I think the concept behind it is that if they advertise it in a flyer, they like to have at least a few when they open on that day. So, a store might hold 12 or so for the first day of the sales flyer. But otherwise, anything more than 12, they'd just put 'em out whatever day they get 'em. I don't know if that's really what happens. That's just what I hear. I may be regurgitating a lie.

Here is what I've seen happen, the stores gets a projected shipment schedule from the manfacturer, so the manufacturer makes their ads a few months in advance. If they were expecting to have quite a few of something on a specific sales date, ten the might have to hold on to a extra shipment just to make sure they have the "sale" item available on th "sale" day.  Thats why some stores my get a shipment in on a Wed. but have to lie and say that they don't have any in, cause they aren't allowed to sell them until that Sunday. If they are lucky they also get another shipment in on that Sunday and now they can have a really big "sale" day for the shopper.

This is why BB hordes their systems, so that they have the largest possible inventory for the sales day. or what some might refer to as their "weekly re-launch". It also does't help the hype that people are constantly lining up outside of the stores on a weekly basis trying to secure a wii, and will proably continue to do so up until the middle of January. Has there ever been anything like this for any other system ever?

Ah, but it only applies to the US stores. We do have TRU in PR but don't know if this applies to them.

I've been calling around and it seems Wal-Marts are the best bets as they're receiving trickles of Wiis in daily.

Of course, calling all around couldn't hurt.

I called Walmart and they don't know when they will get Wiis.

Then again, is does take a while to restock all PR stores since it is a trip via boat.

A friend of mine was in Walmart Monday when they announced they had 5 systems to sell.  So the small number every day may not be far off.  This was sometime before lunch although I'm not sure of the exact time.

I went to Toys R' Us today, and the guy at the electronics section told me that their store was all out 'for the season'...contradicting that press release. I wish I knew what was going on.

Thanks for the heads-up, I might go and visit.

I just called my aunt in the city. She checked 3 different stores and they told her the following:
One store told her that they wouldn't be getting units till FEBRUARY
Another store said they had units but were quickly sold
And finally, one store had no idea when they would be getting units

Didn't I tell you guys that seeing the Virgin Mary on a cheese sandwich would be easier than finding a Wii around here?

Right now, I'm between stores where they're getting a restock (but God knows when), stores where they won't have any until next decade, and stores where the salespeople are lying through the teeth.

I'll probably try going to Circuit City or Best Buy on Christmas Eve, because between 'get them as soon as they come in' and 'we get shipments on random days between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM', I think I have a better chance of hitting the lottery than walking into a fresh shipment.
