VC titles going forward
« on: December 04, 2006, 07:32:46 AM »
Is Nintendo planning to put as many older games as they can on the virtual console- provided the sales support their effort? My question boils down to: a couple years from now, will gamers be able to download almost all first party games and many 3rd party games that were ever released for nes, snes and the 64?
Will I have all the great 16bit rpgs at my 800 point beck and call? And how is Nintendo determining the VC order to ocus on?

I'm sure all the great Nintendo-made games will make it to the VC eventually unless there is licensing issues like there is with Rare. Count on all the Zeldas and Marios for sure.  I'm hoping that they will eventually put some of the handheld games on there. I haven't played a handheld Zelda since the original Link's Awakening on the original Gameboy. I didn't get to play either of the "Oracle" Zelda games or the Minish Cap. I would gladly pay 2000 points for any of those games.  It would be really cool too if Nintendo would port newer DS games to the VC and charge like 4000 points (or whatever the retail price for the DS version would be).  There are games I would like to play on the DS but I have no plans to buy one.

Lately, I'm guessing that Nintendo plans to stretch the VC's classic content out as faaaaaar as possible...possibly on to the next console and maybe even the one after that.  It (sadly) makes a lot of sense business-wise.  People aren't going to buy 50 games if you put 50 games online right away, they're only going to buy one or two.  If you put new games out every week, maybe they'll buy one every couple of weeks.  So keep that addiction running as long as possible.

As for the big first party games, I imagine we'll see a few more during the first quarter of 2007, when the new Wii game lineup starts to dry up.
That's my opinion, not yours.
