Useless topic...
« on: April 26, 2007, 08:34:28 AM »
So, I imported some stuff from Japan (using Play Asia - whoo!) and it arrived today.

Something I found very interesting was that the DS Magnetic Stand (yes, it's an officially made Nintendo accessory) and the DS headset (needed an item to bump my order over $50 so I could use a coupon to save $5) both came packaged with Club Nintendo codes.

The DS/GBA cleaning kit (official!) and DS Lite Rumble Pak (official) did not come with Club Nintendo codes.

Anywhoo, I was going to make a topic about how we get ripped off since our official accessories don't come with codes to register at Nintendo.com.

Then, I remembered it's pretty useless to register anything at Nintendo.com.

So nevermind.

we generally get ripped off, as Japan and Europe have rewards programs yet all we have is a marketing survey program to register what games we buy yet get nothing in return (except maybe a free stylus and 3 months of Nintendo Power).

I missed out on the free stylus.  It's the only US promotion I didn't get in on.

Picks of the stand (and the special stylus it comes with), the cleaning kit (it's pretty nice, really) and the Rumble Pak will be forthcoming.

At this point, Nintendo's program just doesn't exist to me anymore.  I stopped registering stuff since I registered my Wii, and I won't start again unless they have a good promotion.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Okay, here's some picks of my PlayAsia loot.

The nice, uniform boxes.  Maybe I'm crazy, but I think the Japanese packages look pretty darn cool.

The Official Nintendo DS cleaning kit.  The case is a nice quality plastic snap case.  The GBA cart will, of course, work with any of the GBAs.  The DS cleaner will clean the DS card slot and has brushes for cleaning your game cards too.

The DS Lite Rumble Pak.  It's slightly more quiet than the regular rumble pak, but still makes some noise and isn't very strong.  Sometime, when I get a triwing screwdriver, I might see if it's possible to put the innards of the DS Lite rumble pak into the slot 2 cover, so my DS will be pretty white still.

This is the top of the official Nintendo DS Stand with Magnet.  The thing protruding from the top is something like a GBA cart.  It doesn't do anything, except allow the DS/DS Lite to fit snugly into place.

The side of the stand.  It's adjustable to four angles (5 if you count closed.  If you have the stand opened, you can't use the magnetic mount, although I'm not sure why you would...

The stand holding my DS Lite.

The back of the stand, holding my original DS.  The black pads are cushions to keep the stand from scratching stuff.

The third official Nintendo branded stylus, in comparison to the other two (the DS and DS Lite stylii, of course).  This stylus, with the weighted tip & strap comes with the Stand with Magnet.  It's designed to attach to the stand so you can easly pick up/drop the stylus when working in the kitchen with the stand mounted to your fridge.

These didn't come out quite like I wanted...

The back of the box to the stand.  In the third picture, the person is apparently cooking a small squid my flipping it in her frying pan.  The fourth pic, apparently, has the person playing maracas.  I'm not sure what that's about.

Slightly amusing pics of before and after a user getting a DS Headset .

How to use your official DS cleaning kit.  And how to be happy afterwards.

The pictures about the stand demonstrate that the DS can be held up so you can see the music from a game, or see recipes.  That's my guess.

Nice pictures! Thanks!  I'd love that stand.

I do like the stand... it is pretty neat.

Magnet Stand from PlayAsia.com

And, just in case someone wants something else...

Official Nintendo DS Cleaning Kit from PlayAsia.com
DS Lite Rumble Pak from PlayAsia.com
The Rumble Pak says it's on back order, but I ordered it and it shipped the next day.

I just got my stuff from Play Asia, too! Only 22 days delivery time via Airmail!

At first I was surprised that the Screw Breaker (Drill Dozer) cart was so huge but then I realized that it's rumble-capable.

Choushoujuu Mecha MG seems pretty nice so far but REALLY wordy (they mark locations that are just cutscenes differently from locations that include missions, so far the cutscenes outnumber the missions 5-1 or so). I don't know what review made me think this game has only five different pilotable mechs but I've already seen more than that offered for sale and the mech list has space for at least a hundred entries, even if not all are pilotable I've seen at least 8 for sale already. I gotta find out more about the game, specifically how the upgrades work, I haven't found a way to remove installed upgrades yet (maybe that comes once all slots are full so you can "overwrite" upgrades you no longer need...).

Oh and picking up and tossing buildings FTW!
