Okay. We have two options:

1. figure out a way to prevent the forums from parsing '>' as '>'
edit: ahaha, I meant  '>'

2. figure out a way to get a countdown inside a single tag (either <a> or <img>). Flash would be impossible, but  javascript might not be.
