I recently heard an argument that name brands don't mean much for video game consoles - not for more than a generation or two, anyway. The supporting evidence was:
- Atari (lost to Nintendo)
- Nintendo (lost marketshare every generation in spite of having best brand name)
- Game Boy (awful-sounding brand name, became biggest system brand in video game history)
- DS (growing rapidly in spite of losing huge Game Boy brand)
- PSP (failing in spite of huge Playstation brand)
Edit: Sega also fits in there somewhere, although I don't think it was ever quite as big as Nintendo or Playstation.
Double-Edit: Wii makes a great logo, this was the thing I really liked about the name when it launched.
