Free Animal Crossing Items Available at Toys R Us

This week only, several Mario themed items will be available to download at your local Toys R Us.

Animal Crossing Fans Go Wild During "Free Download Week" at Toys "R" Us    


July 20, 2006    


Hundreds of thousands of Animal Crossing®: Wild World fans are encouraged to hurry down to their local Toys "R" Us store with their Nintendo DS to download exclusive virtual gifts which are not available anywhere else in North America. Toys "R" Us has designated July 23 through July 29 "Free Download Week," offering Animal Crossing: Wild World fans the opportunity to download six exclusive virtual gifts via DS Download Stations. The exclusive items will be available for one week only and are free to all fans.    


Nintendo DS Download Stations at all Toys "R" Us stores nationwide will allow fans to download exclusive Mario-themed items: 1-up mushroom, star, fire bar, goal flag, question box and pipe. The items are sure to add character to any Animal Crossing player's house and, more importantly, make all of their "guests" wildly jealous of their mushroom-chic design skills.    


Animal Crossing: Wild World for Nintendo DS is a community-building game that incorporates use of Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. Players move into a village and have fun fishing, catching insects, remodeling their homes and interacting with their neighbors. The game also allows users near and far to connect with their friends via Wi-Fi connections at no additional charge. They can visit one another’s towns where they can find exotic fruit, hunt for new animal species or just hang out with their friends.    


Animal Crossing: Wild World is rated E for Everyone.

Cyrian: With the way this works, there is a very high chance that other PGC'ers will have duplicates of particular items.  I'd suggest a thread on the 'ACWW Trading Post' boards for this very type of exchange.

A friend of mine got the sales associate to set this up a day early, and as a result got to see what these download stations look like (A Nintendo DS).  He also got to read the information brochure for the sales associate.  There are apparently 6 items to obtain.  You obtain them by entering Tag mode.  My friend made a couple of notes.

1) The item you get appears to be completely random
2) Getting them all is actually quite labor intensive.  Buy a bottle, write a note, release into the ocean, save, TAG mode from main menu, download, enter town, scour the beach for item in a bottle.  Rinse, Repeat.
3) Releasing multiple notes into the ocean at once does nothing.

Unconfirmed is the ability for different residents to all get something via tag mode... although with the way that works I'm not sure it would save any time.

I hope my local TRU's are better than the GS's. I went to GS last year for the Nintendogs download but I never got my gift, and that pissed me off because I went to GS specifically to get the download.

Well, I went to my local Toys R Us today to discover that.... it's not there anymore.  Not sure I really want to go out of my way to find another one.

I went by my TRU last night and the sales associate had no idea how to do the download.  He pulled out the download station while trying to figure things out, so I got to check it out.

Fortunately, I remembered enough of this post to stumble through the process, but they were also closing when I got there, so I only got one of the items.  Now that I know the drill, I'll have to stop by later this week to try to get the rest of the set.  My house isn't quite big enough for the item I got,  though.

The sales associate was nice enough to let me stick around until I figured it out, even though it was quite a bit after closing by the time I was done.

Slightly off topic, what is the tag for creating spoiler text?

all 6 items in 6 attempts - Lucky me!

(First 5 were unique!, traded the 6th with another fellow in store who had duplicates of the one I didn't have)
