Activision Needs Your Voice!
« on: June 28, 2006, 05:14:13 PM »
Do you have what it takes to be the voice behind The Sub-Mariner or Jean Grey in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance?

Got a great acting voice? Think you can do it professionally? Well, Activision's ready to give you your big break. Head on over to Marvel: Ultimate Alliance's official website to check out the rules for the contest, and send in your audition sample.

The Grand Prize Winner, besides being featured in the game as either The Sub-Mariner or Jean Grey, will recieve an Xbox 360, a copy of the game signed by Stan Lee, a pack of Ultimate Alliance playing cards, and a free trip to Los Angeles.

Good luck; you've got until July 23, 2006 to enter!

Sub-Mariner?  I don't even know who that is.  Sounds like women get the long end of this stick.
That's my opinion, not yours.

He's basically the Marvel version of Aquaman. He's a pretty old character, too; he was around during the time of the first Human Torch comic (not to be confused with Jonny Storm, the Fantastic 4 Torch). He was also the first Marvel anti-hero.

Also known as "Namor".

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

The only place I've ever seen Sub-Mariner is in the old Avengers beat-'em-up arcade game.  Just before you dive into the water for a goofy shooting level, you run past him and hear someone yell, "Thanks, Sub-Mariner!"  I guess he was the one supplying the vehicles for the characters who couldn't use their superpowers in the water.

By the way, Karl, were you referencing that game in the title of the article?  It reminds me of the way the game's cheesy narrator voice would yell, "America still needs your help!" when you died.

"He's a pretty old character, too"

Actually he's Marvel's oldest character period.  Both he and Human Torch were in Marvel Comics #1 but Sub-Mariner actually predates that comic by appearing in an unreleased comic (Motion Picture Funnies or something like that) that was only discovered within the last ten years or so.  He's way better than Aquaman.  No talking to fish and he can fly and has super strength thus making his powers actually useful outside of water.

I'd suggest my brother try out since he has a pretty cool voice and can act okay but it's only open to Americans!  GRRRR!

Nope, I wasn't really referencing anything, but hey, if it makes sense to you, go with it.
