Could Wii Sports be bundled with the Wii?
« on: May 20, 2006, 09:13:12 AM »
Anyone else thinks that ninty is planning to Bundle Wii sports with the Wii at launch?  Seems to me that would make a $250 price tag seem very attractiveand would work as a great intro to the Wii system.

Well, I think it's been discussed already on several occasions, and we came to the conclusion that Nintendo should either bundle WiiSports or simply a demo disc of some sort.

Honestly, anything that demostrates exactly why the Wii is so special will be fine.

I think bundling "Wii Sports" is a given. Truthfully, I can't see anyone actually wanting to pay for "Wii Sports", but there are plenty of people that wouldn't mind playing it.

What if its not just bundled in with the system but is actually part of the system, much like Picto Chat on DS.

That way no matter what game(or movie) you have in the drive, you can always boot up a quick Wii sports game to play b4 you swith to the game(or movie) thats in the drive. Imagine you are waiting on a online(or offline) multiplayer game to get started, instead of just sitting there waiting staring at the screen, you could just hop to the main menu and play a little tennis for 2-3 minutes while you wait, or whatever games happen to be included.

I think that will add alot of value to the system with the whole "5 games included" advertising angle

I cenrtianly hope this is bundled with the Wii, or make it only $20 since I can't see too many people paying $50+tax for it.

I'd pay full price for Wii Sports if it included Airplane.

There's no way I can see this being a pack-in after Nintendo complained the Metroid Hunters Demo stole DS software sales. I highly doubt it'll be sold cheaply either, maybe if they sold each of the games seperately.

Also the $250 "pricepoint" is just a rumor. Nintendo has yet to announce a price, from what I gathered the $250 came from analyst who said that is the price they think Nintendo will go for. And considering the past few console launches they sould be announcing it soon at a Stockholders meeting they hold around E3 time. (At least that is when they revealed the Gamecube and N64 prices and launches.)

As for the topic I think it is a good possiblity that they will pack in the Sports titles and maybe duck hunt. What they loose in initial software sales should be quickly made up by the addition userbase they can gain by adding it.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

Well considering how the DS has turned out i think Nintendo might be willing to take that risk.

yeah nintendo might be willing to take that risk, but if software doesn't sell well after launch devolopers might think its going to be a flop and back out, and developers that will take the "wait and see" approach would bash the system as being g*mmicky. even if it reaches DS-like sucess, there will be developers who wouldn't want to go back on their claims of it being a g*mmick and not support the machine at all.

I think it's more likely Nintendo will include a demo disc featuring a slimmed down version of Wii sports along with demos for Zelda, Metroid, Wario, Excite Truck, Project Hammer, and maybe even a few third-party titles like
Red Steel and Trauma Center. The E3 tech-demos will likely be thrown in as well if they're not built into the console which could be a possibility.
I mean it's essential that Nintendo show people how many ways the remote can be used. No single game will do that. A collection of demos certainly would and would no doubt help spur sales of the games previewed.

It wouldn't be like the DS's First Hunt demo either.
The problem with that is it was a SINGLE demo for a game that wasn't released until LONG after launch. I hate to say it but that was kind of stupid on Nintendo's part and it probably did hurt software sales.

I always wanted a demo disc that had small portions of gameplay from many different situations. Each would only be a few minutes long (some would include multiplayer, though), but they would show exactly what the Wii is capable of. Demos from every genre, and some that don't fit in one, utilising the controller to make the owner understand what they have with it. These could also be great to ease people into using the remote so that they are better acclimated to it. In fact, they should put this demo disc on display in their booths, which I hope they have everywhere..

EDIT: They could also include some of the tech demos in here, from the TGS ones to the obstacle course..

Nintendo probably expects every Wii owner to buy Wiisports, Zelda, and Metroid (or Madden).  Those software sales are practically guaranteed, and I don't forsee any freebies (unless WiiOrchestra or Obstacle course get bundled in/ appear via WiiConnect24)
I'll shut up now...

Hmm... what about Obstacle Course? What about Wii Music (drums and orchestra)? Where do these games/demos stand if Wii sports is bundled?

Hmm...

I do think it would be smart to bundle a demo disc or a game like Wii Sports.  I think it would be smart since Wii Sports is easily THE non-gamer game at launch, but if hardcore gamers don't want to buy it (as most in this thread are voting) then how are the non-gamers going to play it?  The point is to get this interesting, multiplayer, non-gamer experience into the hands of the hardcore so that the casuals and non-gamers get a chance to see and play it.  That won't happen if Mario is the only person who buys it.

Of course the alternative is for Nintendo to launch the game at a low price so people buy it anyway.  $20-$30 US.  I would buy it at that price, but probably not if it's more.  This would work, but maybe not as well.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Yeah I don't see Wii sports selling (unless its really cheap) on its own, but as a bundle it would make the Wii more attractive

What'd be better than a bundle would be an interactive start-up screen with the same magnetism as Mario 64's start-up screen.

Well now that we know the price is going to be $200-250 (with 250 looking more likely) a Wii sports bundle is sounding better and better, don't you think?
