Mario Kart Revolution in the Works!
« on: December 19, 2005, 05:29:06 AM »
Hideki Konno from the latest issue of Nintendo Power (Feb06) has confirms Mario Kart Revolution!

Quote

Nintendo Power: What do you like most about the Revolution controller?

Hideki Konno: We're doing a lot of experiments right now with the Revolution controller and obviously with the direct pointing device (DPD) and its ability to track movement and distance. You know, that's huge, because that's a brand-new thing that we've never seen before in any controller. Trying to envision all the different things we could do with that motion sensor, that DPD, is a little mind-boggling.

NP: Where do you think the Mario Kart series can go from here?

Konno: As you know, Mario Kart has appeared on all of Nintendo's platforms so far, and I think it's done its job on the DS, or at least I hope it will with what's new. So the next logical step, of course, is the Revolution. Really what we hope to do is continue to bring new and creative things to the franchise that appeal not only to our established user base, but also bring new people into the game.

I call a translation error. Mario Kart can't be coming to the Revolution because Mario Kart is a real game for gamers.

Wait wait wait, you're telling me that a profitable, critically acclaimed series is going to get a next-gen sequel? Blashphemy!

Speaking of over-exposure, a new article has popped up regarding developers and their opinions of the Revolution.

http://www.revolutionreport.com/articles/read/229

Nothing but good things have been said about the REV, and yes, I know that it doesn't translate directly to thrid-party support, but still, it has to mean something.

It's on the Super NES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, DS, and in arcades.
It's not on the NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Virtual Boy.  Oh, and that Pocket Pikachu thing.  And Game & Watches.

6/12 counts as all?  It's just as close to none as all.

Though it was first on the Super NES, so the idea wasn't conceived of yet before that, so that explains the absence on the G&Ws and the NES and it probably wouldn't have looked good on the Game Boy.  Similarly, it probably wouldn't have looked good on the GBC, which they didn't have many games for anyway.  And the Virtual Boy?  Pfff.  And the Pocket Pikachu thing?  An even bigger "pfff".

I think by saying "every one of Nintendo's platforms" what is meant is every console since the Super NES, and only the more recent handhelds.

So is it really any surprise that a Revolution version is on its way?  Even if it was still seemingly a 50/50 chance it wouldn't be a surprise if it did show up.

Well, here is some lube, so you can loosen up a little and a towel so you don't have to try to get it in everyones faces

It's waaaaay too early to be talking about Mario Kart.  They're supposed to save it for the underwhelming E3 they plan after Rev Zelda and Rev Metroid and Rev Ballon Fighter come out.

I wouldn't count out a 2 second dev clip tho this E3 just like the very short dev clip I saw back at the E3 2001 press conference.  You know, before it had double the dash.

I believe Konno said he wanted to do something new first, so Mario Kart will probably be 2008 at the earliest...
