MS to have cost advantage in next gen.
« on: November 03, 2005, 12:47:42 PM »
And the Duh award goes to Merril Lynch:

Leading financial management company Merrill Lynch has today released a report that analyzes some of the advantages and disadvantages for both Microsoft and Sony in the upcoming next generation console war (Nintendo was not part of the discussion).
(those bastards)

Titled simply "The Next Game Consoles," the report gives the Xbox 360 a major advantage when it comes to cost. "Sony has in PS3 a console with plenty of impressive proprietary technology, but also a high manufacturing cost

I could have told them that.

But this is interesting:
With that cost analysis in mind, the report also predicted a key price advantage for the 360 by the end of next year: "Based on the cost analysis as well as our analysis of the two companies' strategies, we think that Xbox 360 could be selling at half the price of PS3 in the latter half of 2006."

They're probably saying "PS3: 500$, X360 core in late 2006: 250$".

I just don't see the 360 getting a price drop next year...MS is too money-hungry this time around...

Anyway I'm going with Bill on this one, even if they could lower the price to such a low level I don't think MS will, unless they are getting hammered in sales, and will likely pocket the difference instead.

Meh, I prefer babu, even if it isn't Japanese.

Anyway, I'm not really surprised. MS will have to resort to desperate tactics to stave off the PS3... it's just a question of how desperate. Wouldn't be surprised if Halo3 got released on the same day... wouldn't even be surprised if they delayed Oblivion even further to hold Sony off.

SPEAK ENGLISH!!
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Ha ha.  I can read the German and the French.  I can't write it so well.  Uh....yeah...how about that Xbox 360?  Is it still a price advantage if BOTH consoles are too expensive?  And what's up with the Xbox and PS2?  They're still as much as a DS!  I was thinking of buying one of them now that the new consoles are starting to come out, but the prices are still pretty high.  That's probably more than half of a Revolution right there!
That's my opinion, not yours.

If Microsoft was in it just for the money, they'd have quit after this generation.  Microsoft is in this for the long haul and they expect to stay in the red for quite some time with the XBOX.

Remember WebTV?  That was their first attempt at convergance and that's really what they want.  They perceive that to be the future of home entertainment and they want to monopolize your entertainment.

I am willing to make a huge bet that MS will cut their prices (even if by only $50) by the time PS3 comes out.
